Cinco de Mayo is a great excuse to let your hair down, do a little salsa dancing and sip a couple margaritas! But, don’t worry, it’s not the only time to get a mouth-watering tequila cocktail. Summer is on its way and Margarita Monday comes around every week. Lucky for us, Omaha is a hotbed for authentic Mexican fare — which means there are plenty of places to taste a classic margarita and even a few surprising innovations.

From 99-cent classics to top-shelf creations, there’s something for every budget and every palate. When you need a break from traditional lime, you can even get a refreshing lemon and lavender concoction!

Try out our favorites and let us know where you prefer to sip this refreshing beverage.

It’s no secret Roja Grill has one of the best margaritas in town. In fact, you all chose it as the favorite in this year’s Best of Omaha 2017. And in 2015, the Omaha World-Herald food prowl team named El Traditional the best in town. Don’t you think it’s about time you stopped by to try one? The top-shelf El Traditional is made with Don Julio, Cointreau and fresh lime juice — but there are 13 other options!

Maria’s

Maria’s serves some of the best tacos in town and their perfect, summery margarita pairs perfectly! The recipes for both are developed from family classics and decades of experience. Order an original soft shell with a hand poured marg and Maria’s will soon become one of your favorite destinations, too.

They’re a go-to destination for innovative specialties — including Lemon & Lavender, Spiced Pineapple and 1800 Coconut & Ginger. If you haven’t tasted it, don’t skip the classic H & L margarita made with Exotico Blanco, citrus-infused blanco, fresh lime juice, house-made orange liqueur, Demerara syrup and orange brandy.

Don & Millie’s

Don’t write off Don & Millie’s just because their margaritas are served out of a slush machine in a frosty beer mug. These cocktails come on the rocks or iced, and they’re only 99 cents! For less than a dollar, they’re well balanced and hit the spot every time.

At Fernando’s they make everything fresh — including the handmade tortillas and homemade hot sauces. Not only is Cilantro’s one of the most delicious Mexican restaurants in Omaha, you can also get many of their authentic plates for under $10! And while you’re eating one of the best budget-friendly meals in town, sip a tasty margarita. They offer seven styles with even more flavor and tequila options.
