‘Tis the season to be jolly, and with so many fun and festive events on the calendar, we don’t think that will be difficult! Omaha is hosting a wide variety of spectacular shows, soul-warming cooking classes and merry festivals this year — all bound to get you in the holiday spirit.

We gathered up some of the events we are most looking forward to this year, so get out those calendars, don your ugliest sweater, and get ready to make this the jolliest holiday season yet.

A Christmas Carol

When: November 17-December 23
Where: Omaha Community Playhouse, Omaha

The season wouldn’t be complete without a showing of A Christmas Carol! Ebenezer Scrooge will take the stage in Omaha this year, and everyone is invited to join him on his journey to discover the true meaning of Christmas. The costumes, set design and music are second to none!


A Charlie Brown Christmas Live on Stage

When: November 18, 1 pm and 4 pm
Where: Orpheum Theater, Omaha 

Join Charlie Brown, Snoopy, Lucy, Linus and the rest of the Peanuts crew as they take the stage for this truly heartwarming holiday performance at Omaha’s Orpheum Theater. People of all ages are guaranteed to fall in love with the story.


The Holly Jolly Boutique

When: November 18, 10 am-4 pm
Where: il Palazzo, Omaha

Shop art, jewelry, edible treats and more from dozens of local artisans at this holiday craft fair! You’re bound to find some stocking stuffers for that special someone, and rumor has it that Santa himself will be making an appearance for the kids.


The Opening Ceremony for the NRG Energy Ice Rink in the Capitol District

When: November 21
Where: The Capitol District, 11th and Capitol Avenue, Omaha

The NRG Energy Ice Rink will have a new home this year in Omaha’s Capitol District! Come by for the opening ceremony on November 21 and be among the first to carve the ice surrounded by brilliant lights and festive music. The outdoor rink will be open through Valentine’s Day (weather permitting), and a portion of the proceeds will benefit the Food Bank for the Heartland.


The Thanksgiving Lighting Ceremony

When: November 23, 5:40 pm
Where: The Gene Leahy Pedestrian Mall, Omaha 

Nothing will get you in the holiday spirit quite like the Lighting Ceremony, which takes place in our city every year on Thanksgiving Day. This year, enjoy a musical performance by the Omaha Children’s Choir at 5:40 pm, and then at 6 pm, join Mayor Jean Stothert in a countdown to the spectacular lighting display at the Gene Leahy Pedestrian Mall. Afterward, Jingle Bell Brass will spread Christmas cheer with a special holiday performance.

Following the ceremony, don’t miss the opportunity to jump start your holiday shopping! Some of Old Market’s finest shops, restaurants and pubs will be open, and there will be horse-drawn carriages available to enjoy with loved ones.


The Making Spirits Bright Holiday Concert

When: November 23, 7 pm
Where: The Holland Performing Arts Center, Omaha

Located just across from the Thanksgiving Lighting Ceremony, the Holland Performing Arts Center will host vocalist Camille Metoyer Moten and the Nebraska Wind Symphony for a free, family-friendly holiday concert after the festivities.


The Tree Lighting Ceremony at Union Station

When: November 24, 4-8 pm
Where: The Durham Museum, Omaha 


The Durham Museum will host a fabulous holiday celebration following Thanksgiving! Enjoy cookie decorating, holiday crafts, live music, a display of Christmas trees from around the world, and even a visit from Santa himself — all for the price of regular museum admission.


The 14th Annual Lighting Ceremony at Village Pointe

When: November 24, 6-10 pm
Where: The Village Pointe Shopping Center, Omaha

Come to see the giant tree lit up at the Village Pointe Shopping Center! Enjoy a family-friendly concert at 6 pm followed by free hot cider, cookies and carriage rides — and don’t miss the arrival of Santa in the Santa Parade at 7 pm.


The Lights of Aksarben

When: November 24, 6-8 pm
Where: Stinson Park, Omaha 

A heated tent, free horse and carriage rides, face painting, ROAST coffee and cocoa, treats, and visits from Santa and Mrs. Claus are just a few of the things that await you at this tree lighting festival. Don’t miss it!


The Holiday Poinsettia Show

When: November 24-January 9, 9 am-5 pm
Where: The Lauritzen Gardens, Omaha

Witness the spectacular display of thousands of poinsettias at the Lauritzen Gardens this season, including a 20-foot-tall poinsettia tree, a cascade of twinkling white lights and glittering ornaments.


Sounds of the Season

When: Saturdays, November 25-December 23
Where: Gene Leahy Mall or Old Market, Omaha (Check website for schedule)

Each Saturday during the holidays, Sounds of the Season will showcase the talent of local choral groups ranging from youths to professional performers. Expect a delightful lineup of your favorite holiday classics — with a few twists! The concerts are free and open to the public, weather permitting. Cirque Music Holiday Presents: BELIEVE

When: November 30, 7:30 pm
Where: The CenturyLink Center, Omaha

This holiday performance is unlike any other, featuring the high-flying cast of Cirque Musica dancing and swinging to a live symphony orchestra.


Ethnic Holiday Festival

When: December 1, 5-9 pm
Where: The Durham Museum, Omaha 

Learn how the rest of the world celebrates the most wonderful time of the year at the Ethnic Holiday Festival, where more than 20 local cultural organizations will showcase crafts, traditional dress and dancing.


Santa Goes to Space

When: December 2, 10 am-2 pm
Where: The Strategic Air Command and Aerospace Museum, Ashland 

Santa Goes to Space

Santa Claus and stormtroopers will unite at this fun-filled family event. Enjoy free pictures with your favorite Star Wars characters (and Santa, of course), planetarium showings, ornament crafting, holiday music and more!


Wells Fargo Family Festival

When: December 3, noon-5 pm
Where: Various locations

Get ready for an afternoon of free family fun! Wells Fargo will offer the community an opportunity to experience many of Omaha’s leading downtown attractions free of charge, including the Durham Museum, The Joslyn Art Museum, The Omaha Children’s Museum and more! There will be a fun holiday trolley available to shuttle you from location to location, and plenty of fun activities at each stop.


The Madrigal Christmasse Feaste

When: December 5-8, 6 pm
Where: The Omaha Marriott Hotel, Omaha 

Hear ye! Hear ye! Come one and all to celebrate Christmas Renaissance-style at this interactive dinner festival experience. A cast of more than 30 will treat the audience to beautiful Christmas music, jester antics, and more while you enjoy a multi-course feast.


Straight No Chaser, The Speakeasy Tour

When: December 6, 7:30 pm
Where: The Holland Performing Arts Center

Straight No Chaser, a male acapella group famous for their rendition of “The 12 Days of Christmas,” will stop in Omaha on their national tour! Don’t miss the chance to see them live.


Holiday Under Glass

When: Wednesdays and Fridays, December 6-22, noon to 1 pm
Where: The Joslyn Art Museum, Omaha 

Enjoy your favorite holiday tunes performed by Omaha’s most talented musical groups in the Joslyn Art Museum’s annual concert series. After the show, peruse the awe-inspiring works of art on a gallery tour at 1 pm.


Boys Town Christmas Family Festival

When: December 9, 1-5 pm
Where: Boys Town, Douglas County 

The Boys Town village in Douglas County will be filled to the brim with the magic and wonder of Christmas at this fun-filled event! Speak with Santa, visit the reindeer, decorate sugar cookies, make crafts, enjoy Irish Dancers and more!


Holiday Creations, Coffee and Cocktails

When: December 9, 10 am-4 pm

Get all of your holiday shopping done in one day at this festive event. Discover Omaha and Yelp will collaborate to present a unique experience with 30 local vendors. Shop and enjoy holiday-themed bites, coffee and cocktails at this fun event.


The Hip Hop Nutcracker

When: December 9, 8 pm
Where: The Orpheum Theater, Omaha 

This explosive reimagining of everyone’s favorite holiday classic tells Clara’s story in the setting of modern-day New York City, and features a dozen dancers, an on-stage dj, and an electric violinist.


Omaha Symphony Christmas Celebration

When: December 9-December 17
Where: The Holland Performing Arts Center, Omaha

Celebrate the magic of the season with the Omaha Symphony as they are joined on stage by an impressive lineup of Broadway stars and tap-dancers. Expect traditional Christmas classics alongside contemporary favorites, but more importantly, a memorable evening bound to get you in the holiday spirit!


Holiday Appetizers Cooking Class

When: December 16, 9:30 and 2 pm
Where: Provisions by the Grey Plume, Omaha

Christmas with the Annie Moses Band

Mannheim Steamroller Christmas

America’s favorite holiday tradition returns this year with Grammy Award-winner Chip Davis. Enjoy the beloved Christmas music of Mannheim Steamroller alongside dazzling multimedia effects.
