The weather is slowly beginning to thaw, and basketball has become an incredibly hot conversation topic. That can only mean one thing — March is here! There are so many events in Omaha to celebrate the coming of spring, from easter egg hunts and parades to concerts and basketball tournaments.

We’ve gathered up some of the local events we are most looking forward to, so mark your calendar! You won’t want to miss out on the fun.

 

Arts + Culture

First Friday Old Market

When: Friday, March 2, 6-9 pm
Where: Old Market
Price: FREE

Spend your Friday night celebrating local creativity in Omaha’s most exciting (and most historic) neighborhood! Galleries and cafes in the area will keep their doors open late, inviting those passing by to come view new collections and have conversations with the artists. Participating galleries include the Artists’ Cooperative Gallery, Ted & Wally’s, the Passageway Gallery and more.

 

The Omaha Film Festival

When: Tuesday-Sunday, March 6-11, Schedule TBD
Where: The Village Pointe Shopping Center
Price: $10-$100

Established in 2005, the Omaha Film Festival is an annual event celebrating the artistic, educational and historic importance of motion pictures. The festival gives independent film artists the opportunity to share their work in front of a local audience and spark a dialogue in the community. You’ll be able to witness films from local and national artists alike, and attend several film festival parties throughout the week!

 

Miranda Lambert – Livin’ Like Hippies Tour

When: Thursday, March 8, 7 pm
Where: The CenturyLink Center
Price: $40-$150

Grammy Award-winning country artist Miranda Lambert will take the stage at the CenturyLink Center on March 8 for her Livin’ Like Hippies Tour. She will be joined by artists Jon Pardi and Sunny Sweeney.

 

Riverdance

When: Wednesday and Thursday, March 14-15, 7 pm
Where: The Orpheum Theater
Price: Starting at $41

The international Irish Dance sensation is returning to the Orpheum Theater for its 20th Anniversary World Tour! This tour will feature new costumes, new lighting, new projections and a new number, but the same Irish spirit you know and love.

 

Che Malambo

When: Thursday, March 22, 7:30-11 pm
Where: Orpheum Theater

This renowned Argentinian dance troupe will bring the magic of Malambo dance to Omaha on March 22! Through fast-paced footwork, explosive drumming, and thrilling movement, the show will bring the South American tradition of the gaucho to live on stage at the Orpheum Theater. 

 

Community Events

The St. Patrick’s Day Parade

When: Saturday, March 10, 10 am
Where: Old Market
Price: FREE

Celebrate this joyful day with a morning parade through the streets of Omaha! The parade will march through the Old Market area of downtown, starting at 15th and Harney Street. Bring your best Irish spirit, and don’t forget to wear green!

 

Junktoberfest | Spring Edition

When: Friday, March 23, 5-9 pm; Saturday, March 24, 9 am-5 pm; Sunday, March 25 10 am-4 pm
Where: Southroads Mall, Bellevue
Price: $5 for the entire weekend

This vintage and artisan gift market features collectibles, memorabilia, furniture, antiques, gifts, repurposed pieces, crafts and more. After all, one person’s junk is another person’s treasure! Come peruse the booths and find something to take home with you.

 

Family-Friendly Events

Nebraska Brick Days | A LEGO Fan Expo

When: Saturday, March 10, 10-6 pm; Sunday, March 11, 10-5 pm
Where: Mid America Center, Council Bluffs
Price: $5-$25

This family-friendly LEGO event is fun for all ages! LEGO fans will be able to browse through the spectacular works of art created for the event, including large LEGO Mosaics, Star Wars and history-inspired designs, local landmark replicas, and even a complete railroad layout meandering through farms and a city. Guests with a Full Access Pass can even bring their own creation to show off! What will you bring?

 

The Spring Fling

When: Saturday, March 10, 10 am-noon
Where: Strategic Air Command & Aerospace Museum
Price: $12 for adults, $6 for children

Spring is in the air, so come celebrate with the whole family. Eggs will be dropped from a helicopter, at which point it is your kids’ job to find as many as they can! Afterward, enjoy arts, crafts, face painting and a visit from the Easter Bunny.

 

St. Patrick’s Day Luncheon at the Lauritzen Gardens

When: Saturday, March 17, 10 am-2 pm
Where: Lauritzen Gardens
Price: $5 for children, $10 for adults

What better place to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day than the greenest place in Omaha? Come join the Lauritzen Gardens for a traditional Irish lunch, including corned beef and cabbage, boiled potatoes and Irish soda bread. After eating, you’ll be able to enjoy live entertainment and wander the gardens at your leisure. Reservations are required! Make yours by calling Merri at 402-346-4002.

 

The Omaha Fairytale Ball

When: Sunday, March 18, 9 am-3 pm
Where: The Omaha Marriott
Price: $25-$40

Bring your little prince or princess to meet all of his or her favorite Disney princesses at the Omaha Fairytale Ball! The event is full of magical, photo-worthy moments that you won’t want to miss, including a dance with Cinderella, dessert with Tinkerbell and crafting with the Little Mermaid. The event staff is dedicated to making sure your little one feels royal throughout the day, so you’ll also have access to professional princess portraits, a candy buffet, stories, songs games and more.

 

Sports

The Leprechaun Chase

When: Sunday, March 4, 4-5 pm
Where: Strategic Air Command & Aerospace Museum
Price: $12 for adults, $6 for children

It’s a 10K with a twist! The Leprechaun Case is a festive race in which the ladies get a head start, and the guys chase them. The first person to cross the finish line wins a free drink at the Green Beer After Party. The run begins at 4 pm, and will take you through the planes and rockets at the SAC Aerospace Museum and Mahoney State Park.  

 

Division I Men’s Basketball Championship

When: Friday, March 23 and Sunday, March 25
Where: CenturyLink Center Omaha
Price: $150-$300

Basketball fans are probably well aware that March Madness is upon us. Head to Omaha’s CenturyLink Center to watch the excitement from the sidelines on March 23 and 25. Whoever wins the Midwest Regional Tournament will advance to the Men’s Final Four!
