We can hardly believe it, but the new year is just a few days away! And while there are plenty of ways to celebrate leaving 2020 behind, as real estate professionals, we love taking a look at all the new design trends that will be welcoming the new year.

Every year, we explore Sherwin-Williams’ annual color pick—and 2021’s a stunner! With a color this warm, sophisticated and soothing, we can’t wait to start incorporating it into our decor.

The Sherwin-Williams 2021 Color of the Year is—drumroll please—Urbane Bronze, SW 7048! This tranquil color is much needed after the eventful year that was 2020. And because our homes have really become the backdrop of our lives over the past nine months, we could really use an update to our safe haven.

According to Sherwin-Williams.com, “As we’re looking to create the ultimate retreat for reflection and renewal, we’re turning to a hue whose natural simplicity and nature-inspired energy cultivate a sense of calm from the ground up.”

This color is the perfect visual representation of a fresh start, combining the simplicity of the minimalist trend with the warm, rustic nature of industrial decor.

Whether you add a few accessories or want to paint an entire room Urbane Bronze, there are so many ways to incorporate this serene color into your home. In fact, we have a few ideas on how to do it right here!

Paint an accent wall

One of the most straightforward ways to add Urbane Bronze into your home is by painting an accent wall or an entire room this rustic hue. Visit a Sherwin-Williams store near you to pick up your own can of Urbane Bronze and all the necessary supplies for your project.

Incorporate vintage finds

One of our favorite things about Urbane Bronze is how easily it can be found among vintage keepsakes and flea market finds! Rustic filing cabinets, light fixtures, bookends and planters often sport speckles of this minimalist color. Head to a nearby antique store, flea market or neighborhood yard sale (while wearing a mask and social distancing, of course) to pick up a few “new” fun pieces for your decor!

Include leather chairs and couches into the mix

The simplicity and warmth of Urbane Bronze make it perfect for large furniture pieces like chairs and couches! Luckily, you can easily find this tone in the form of real and faux leather, creating a timeless focal point for any seating area. Plus, because of Urbane Bronze’s natural tone, it’s easy to incorporate these pieces into any style of decor—no matter how bold or colorful it is!

Use natural elements

Urbane Bronze offers the perfect mix of vintage industrial with natural minimalism. That means you can probably find natural elements boasting this hue right outside your back door! Dark twigs, river rocks, stumps, feathers and even some leaves can all be easily incorporated into your decor—just remember to wash and prepare them with a few coats of polyurethane if needed.

Refresh a piece of furniture

There’s no denying that Urbane Bronze makes a fantastic accent color. Whether you’re adding it in as a throw pillow, blanket or statement piece—it’s sure to complement practically any other color in your space. Transform a thrift store side table, an inexpensive Ikea dresser, or your parents’ hand-me-down bookshelf into something new with a fresh coat of paint!

Paint a door

We love any excuse to paint a door an interesting color! While there’s something classic about a white door, why not spruce it up a bit with a fresh coat of Urbane Bronze? Whether it is your bedroom, office, kitchen or front door, Urbane Bronze looks perfect on any door settled up against lighter grays, whites and tans.

Add a touch of color to your staircase

Due to Urbane Bronze’s metal inspiration, many people have taken to painting their wooden staircase railings with it! Doing this adds the perfect level of warmth and contrast to any staircase without actually having to replace your handrails. If you want to take it a step further, consider refreshing the steps with a new coat of Urbane Bronze.

Incorporate metal accents

According to Sherwin Williams, Urbane Bronze allows you to “tap into nature with a hue whose warmth and comfort breathe down-to-earth tranquility.” But while we often think of nature as trees, rocks, and greenery, other materials like bronze, gold and iron can be found outdoors as well! If you’re into a more industrial-chic decor, consider incorporating Urbane Bronze into your home through iron and brushed nickel pieces like candlesticks, clocks, side tables, or even chandeliers.

Pair it with gray and tan

Urbane Bronze matches perfectly with several different colors, from navy blues to soft greens. But Sherwin Williams recommends matching it with colors like Modern Gray (a light, dusty and warm gray perfect for minimalist homes) or Messenger Bag (a modern, tan-ish green that offers a hint of bolder style). These three tones work in harmony together to create the serene and sophisticated space you’ve been looking for!

Take it outside
