Your Guide to Spring Cleaning in Omaha

March 26, 2021Add a CommentPosted By

Here at NP Dodge, we’re always looking for new ways to support local Omaha area businesses. So now that spring is here and we are getting ready to declutter and clean our homes for the new season, obviously, we wanted to find and support as many local businesses as possible!

No matter what you’re planning on cleaning this spring, Omaha small businesses can help! Local dry cleaners, lawn care professionals, organizers and car washers are here to make spring cleaning easy for you and your family this year. Read on for a few tips and recommendations on where to go this season

Invest in some natural cleaners

At the heart of every good spring-cleaning routine, you’ll find tried-and-true cleaners and cleaning supplies.  While we love the name-brand stuff, if you’re looking to keep your cleaning routine natural this year, try products from The Clean Environment Company! This Omaha-founded, veteran-owned company creates their products using ingredients that not only clean well, but that are also kind to the people who use them and the world in which we live. While they are now based in Brooklyn, IA, they still have plenty of ties to the Omaha area. You can order all their products—which includes everything from home, car, truck and pet care—online

Reduce and recycle

Spring cleaning also means decluttering. While you can take care of the majority of your clutter by donating it to a local thrift store, there are some items you can’t help but throw away. But instead of tossing them in your garbage can en route to the landfill, consider recycling! If you’re new to Omaha or have never recycled here before, Omaha uses single-stream recycling. That means packer trucks (or garbage trucks) marked with recycling signs collect and transport your recyclables to indoor, semi-automated sorting facilities. You can participate by putting out your recycling cart on your recycling week—which you can learn more about here. If you’re interested in learning about everything you can (and should!) put in your recycling bins, click here!

Dry clean your winter coats

Spring means warmer weather and a much lighter wardrobe! It’s time to pack up your heavy winter coats and store them in the back of your closet for next year. But before you pack them away, you may want to get them dry cleaned and pressed first, so they’re ready to go the next time a big snowstorm hits. When it comes to local dry cleaners, you can’t go wrong with Fashion Cleaners, a local cleaning company that has several locations throughout the Omaha area. They offer everything from dry cleaning to shoe care and heirloom preservation services. And they do it all using eco-friendly, all-natural solvents! While you could drop off your coats at any of their locations in Omaha, we love using their Laundry Lockers in Midtown Crossing. All you have to do is visit their locker location in Midtown Crossing, text them for an access code and place your clothes in a locker! They’ll come to pick them up, clean and press your clothes, return them to the locker and text you again once they are done. No in-person contact necessary!

Get your car cleaned & detailed

Your home isn’t the only thing that needs a good spring cleaning this season! Your car deserves a little love, too. Luckily, Omaha is packed full of amazing car washes and car detailing businesses that will have your vehicle looking like new in no time. Omaha Auto Detail, Sunshine Auto Detail and Hometown Detailing are just a few of our favorites. Afterward, pick up some NoMad Wax Co Everywhere Spray from Made in Omaha to add a refreshing scent to your newly sparkling car!

Work with a professional organizer

Get Organized Omaha

Sometimes, the thought of organizing your home can be overwhelming. If the thought of going through your clutter feels like too much, give Get Organized Omaha a call! This helpful company is run by Kacie Ferrazzo, a professional organizer here in Omaha, offering a judgment-free decluttering and organizing service to those who need it most. Whether you’re looking to organize your entire home or just need some help with your closet, Get Organized Omaha has rates for it all! Click here for all the information and to set up a consultation.

Take unwanted items to a thrift store

When it comes to decluttering your home, the first step is to get rid of things you’re no longer using. But rather than tossing your items in the trash and having them end up at the landfill, consider donating your gently used things to a local thrift store. Not only does this help the environment, but because many local thrift stores are nonprofits that support Omahans in need, you’re helping out the community too! We happen to have a list of our favorite thrift stores right here on The Dodge Voice. Click here for the full scoop.

And any extra books to a used bookstore

If you’re a bookworm with an overwhelming book collection and are planning on decluttering your massive book pilethis season, consider donating your gently used books to a used bookstore! Jackson Street Booksellers and Half Price Books are both great choices when considering selling some of your books. They even offer store credit so you can turn around and buy even more things to read. Talk about a win-win!

Digitize your old family photos

We don’t know about you, but we happen to have a few boxes overflowing with old Polaroids and Walgreens packets of printed photos. While we love having these physical memories just a few feet away at all times, the clutter can get a tad overwhelming. Thankfully, now that we live in the 21st century, there’s an easier way to store photos that will keep them safe AND out of the way. Rockbrook Camera is a local camera and photo shop that not only prints photos, but can digitize your physical ones so that you can easily view them on the computer and/or TV. Click here for more information—including pricing!

Hire professional cleaners

When all else fails and you need some help, why not hire some local, professional cleaners and let someone else do the work? Omaha is packed full of fantastic professional cleaning companies that offer top-to-bottom cleaning for reasonable prices. Grace Home Cleaning, Janitor Jan House Cleaning Service, Price Cleaning Services, Pink Shoe Cleaning Crew and Adalyn Home Cleaning are some of the highest recommended in the area, each offering a fantastic and friendly staff, great prices and incredible cleaning skills.

Or a professional lawn care service

The outside of your home is just as important as the inside when it comes to spring cleaning. Your front yard is the first thing neighbors, guests and family see when stopping by—so you’ll definitely want to make a great first impression. But instead of hauling the mower out yourself, hire a professional to do it for you! Elkhorn Lawn Care, Heartland Lawns, Paradise Lawns, Swift Green Lawn Care and The Lawn Doctor are just a few of our favorites.

Pick up a fresh bouquet to bring it all together

Once everything is said and done, it’s time to add the finishing touches! We’re talking about a spring candle and a bouquet of fresh flowers. Head to one of our favorite florists in the Omaha and Council Bluffs area and pick up a bunch of spring flowers and place them all around your home to add a great smell and fresh look to any room.

Happy Cleaning!
