How to Spend Father’s Day in Omaha

While we think that our dads deserve to be celebrated year round, we appreciate any chance to show them a little extra love! Father’s Day is coming up on Sunday, June 17, which means that you only have a few weeks left to prepare the perfect plans and gifts. Regardless of what kind of dad you have — the foodie, the sports enthusiast, the outdoorsman, etc. — we have plenty of ideas to make this Father’s Day one he will cherish for years to come. Happy planning!

Attend the Collegiate Baseball Championship

The buzz has been building for months, but the big event is finally here! We are so proud to live in the host city for the Collegiate Baseball Championship, which kicks off on Father’s Day weekend this year at TD Ameritrade Park. Fan Fest, located just near the park, is a family-friendly festival packed with interactive games, food trucks, breweries, live music and so much more.

Play A Round of 18 At One of Omaha’s Best Golf Courses

Omaha’s gently rolling terrain makes it an ideal golfing destination, and thankfully, we have a number of lush championship courses right at our doorstep! Here are the 10 best golf courses in the Omaha area. Make a reservation today and make sure not to go easy on Dad!

…Or Play Frisbee Golf Instead

Maybe golf isn’t the best option for the dad in your life, but frisbee golf is equally as fun and also free! Local disc courses offer a variety of styles and levels of play. Our favorites include Hummel Park, Seymour Smith Park and The Links at Lake Cunningham.

Go on a Bike Ride

There are so many trails ripe for exploring in Omaha, and if the weather cooperates, a family bike ride is a great Father’s Day activity. Soak in the sunshine and explore the local scenery. Here is our guide to cycling in Omaha, including the best trails, bike shops and rental options. Have fun!

The Foodie

The Father’s Day Beer, Brats & BBQ Cruise on the River City Star

Treat your dad to a delicious buffet on the Missouri River! This 1.5-hour cruise will allow you to soak in the scenery, listen to live music, and enjoy beer and drink specials along the way. The menu includes all of your favorite barbecue classics — brats, burgers, pulled pork, mac and cheese, corn on the cob, and so much more.

Experience Nebraska Steak

Nebraska Steak

Steak is a pretty popular choice for dads on Father’s Day, and since Omaha is known for its high-quality cuts, that is no surprise to us! Cook it on the grill at home or take him out to dinner at one of these incredible local steakhouses.

Treat Him to a Seafood Dinner

Even though we live in a landlocked state, we have access to the best ocean harvest from either coast! Many local eateries fly their fish in daily — and Dad is sure to be impressed with your choice in cuisine. Go out to a nice dinner or pick up some fresh fish to make at home! Here are the best restaurants and markets in town.

Hop on the Omaha Brew Bus

There’s no doubt about it — Omaha’s craft beer scene is on the rise. It seems like new breweries are opening their doors every month, and we’re honestly okay with that! Show Dad the best of the best on the Omaha Brew Bus, a four-hour guided tour that showcases two Omaha breweries and the Casual Pint Craft Beer Market. Although you’ll be able to sample beers at the brewery, you can also bring some along for the ride. The June Craft Beer Tour is scheduled for Saturday, June 23, so book your tickets in advance and present them as a Father’s Day gift.

Go on a Self-Guided Brewery Tour

If you’d prefer something a little more casual, opt for a self-guided brewery tour instead. Order a flight at several breweries around town to get a true taste for our local craft beer scene. Here is a complete guide to the craft breweries in the Omaha area to get you started.

The Family Man

ZOOm at Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium

Fast cars, cool animals and a family-friendly experience — what more could Dad want this Father’s Day? Head on over to Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium to experience ZOOm, which will feature special presentations on animal speeds and a R/C racing tournament and race car simulator from Fast Action Motorsports Entertainment. The races are guaranteed to be fun for kids and adults alike, so put the pedal to the metal and see who’s the fastest in the family!

Go Bowling at The MARK

Omaha Bowling

Bowling is one of our favorite family-friendly activities, but free bowling is even better! All dads will be treated to free bowling on Sunday, June 17 in honor of Father’s Day, and have the option to indulge in a grilled ribeye or prime rib special. Don’t strike out and miss this deal!

Visit the Fun-Plex

You can always find something fun to do at the Fun-Plex! The park is getting a new attraction this year (the Rockin’ Rapids) and Father’s Day is the perfect day to visit. Dads get in free with the purchase of a child’s admission.

Go Swimming

Omaha Swimming

Splash into Father’s Day at one of Omaha’s public pools! The City of Omaha’s outdoor pools will open on June 4, and each location will offer free admission for dads (with one paid child admission) on Father’s Day. If you’re looking for more ideas, here are the best places to go swimming in Omaha this summer.

Happy Father’s Day!
