The leaves are changing, soon there will be a chill in the air and cozy sweaters will be practically required—fall is finally here! We love this season because it gives us the opportunity to really make our homes feel comfortable with throws, fun wreaths, autumn-scented candles and hand-picked pumpkins.
To help get you started on your home’s fall decor, we’ve rounded up some of our favorite fall decorating ideas, tips and tricks so that you can make your home look and feel as cozy as possible. Happy fall!
Make a great first impression with a fall-themed front porch
Your front door is the first thing anyone sees when they arrive at your home—so make a great first impression! Bundles of mums, seasonal gourds and pumpkins make for spectacular fall decorations. Space them all over your porch, on the front steps, and even in the wreath you hang on the front door. Not only will passersby love getting an eyeful of the seasonal bounty on your stoop, but it will also make you happy every time you come home!
Put seasonal produce on display
Fall means changing leaves, pumpkins, corn husks, gourds, sweet potato vines and more. Take advantage of this vast seasonal bounty by utilizing it in your home decor! Space pumpkins and gourds throughout every room. Sprinkle fall leaves over flat surfaces and set up bouquets of seasonal flowers. And don’t be afraid to use unexpected fall produce in your decor as well! That means pomegranates, crab apple branches, root vegetables and more.
Get the fireplace ready
If you’re lucky enough to have a fireplace in your home, take advantage of it in your fall decor! Stock up on wood (if you have a wood-burning fireplace) and display it proudly. Then make sure to include pumpkins, candles and other seasonal knick-knacks on the mantle.
Swap out statement art
If you love big and beautiful paintings and prints just as much as we do, you probably have several pieces hanging throughout your home. Use the new season as an opportunity to change things up by switching out your normal wall hangings with festive, warm-colored paintings, art prints, macrame and more.

Small arrangements have long been a spectacular way to spread seasonal cheer throughout any home. Use heavier, warmer fabrics
When it comes to fall decorating, the more texture, the better. Swap out your summer sheets, throws and pillows with heavier fabrics like faux fur, leather, burlap and more. This will help warm up your home and create cozy spaces for you and your family to curl up on cold nights.
Pile on the blankets
It’s getting chilly! Blankets are one of the best (and easiest!) ways to get your home ready for the new season. Not only will extra blankets make your home feel welcoming and homey—but they will also be helpful during those frigid nights and chilly weekend mornings! Include them on expected places like beds, couches, window seats and chairs, as well as the unexpected like tables and shelves.

When we think of fall, we’re thinking of colors like orange, red and yellow—warm tones that embody the changing leaves and ample harvest. But if you want to try something different, don’t be afraid to play with different hues! Pink, aqua, black, silver, baby blue and other unexpected colors can complement the normal fall tones perfectly and make your home decor completely unique.
Layer, layer, layer
When it comes to fall and winter—the more layers, the better! Include a few extra blankets on your beds; use two table clothes instead of one on dining and coffee tables; and add in a few cushy rugs all around your home. By adding in extra layers, you’re helping to fill empty space to create a cozy and homey atmosphere perfect for the coming cold!
Bring the outdoors in
Fall is all about the outdoors. Pumpkins, gourds, corn husks, leaves, wood and more are all staples in traditional fall decor. Take advantage of all the season has to offer by bringing leaves, sticks, acorns and pinecones from your backyard inside to use all around the house.
