It’s almost time to celebrate America’s birthday! Our community takes this holiday very seriously, hosting multiple fireworks shows and tons of fun, family-friendly events leading up to the big day.

We rounded up some of our favorite happenings in Omaha, Council Bluffs, Lincoln and the surrounding areas this year to help you plan your celebration. Attend a fireworks show, spend a day at the local pool with your family, or step back in time at a living history event—there are so many ways to celebrate!

When: July 1-4

Seward is a tiny town west of Lincoln offering fun things to do all year long. In fact, we even named it on our list of Towns in Nebraska You Should Visit This Summer! But if you can, we highly recommend stopping by during the Fourth of July weekend! Seward is also known as “Nebraska’s Official Fourth of July City,” which means they go all out for this patriotic holiday with celebrations like parades, car shows, craft shows, bike tours, 5Ks, fireworks and so much more. Click here for their entire 2021 itinerary.

Where: Ditmars Orchard

When: July 2, 9:30 p.m.

All summer long, Ditmars Orchard in Council Bluffs is offering free Friday night movies under the stars! On Fourth of July weekend, they’ll be offering a film that showcases America’s favorite pastime: baseball. Rookie of the Year, the 1993 film starring Thomas Nicholas, will start playing at dusk. While you’re there, don’t forget to take advantage of their Orchard Café, Sweet Shoppe and bar for tasty libations and snacks.
