1.) Divided Spaces

For over a decade, open floor plans have been on the top of every home buyer’s wish list. But many people working from home during the pandemic have craved a little bit more privacy and functionality, which has led to divided spaces and separate rooms soaring back into the interior design scene! In 2022, we expect to see more homes with divided areas popping up on the market. And if you happen to have an open floor plan in your current home, you can add a little separation throughout using wall dividers and other forms of privacy.

2.) Curves & Rounded Shapes

After several years of angular, modern furniture with harsh lines, comforting curves are back once again! Sofas with curved backs and rounded edges, waterfall corners on desks, round coffee tables, and even round beds are soaring in popularity—and we couldn’t be more excited.

3.) Closed Shelving

Kitchens with open shelving were all the rage in the late 2010s. But as people spend more and more time at home, they’ve found that open shelving can sometimes look cluttered and lack the storage capacity of traditional cabinets. Instead, a combination of upper cabinets and interesting shelving units will be all over design magazines in the new year.

4.) Minimalism

Minimalism is still king in the home design world! The time spent at home during the pandemic has only solidified many people’s need for simplicity and functionality. Rather than overwhelming wall art and seemingly unnecessary décor pieces, design experts are anticipating clean lines and clutter-free spaces in 2022.

5.) Nature-inspired Interiors

Plant parents rejoice! Nature-inspired interiors are a favorite among home designers this year and we aren’t surprised. 2020 brought on an onslaught of new plant enthusiasts and the world’s love of house plants hasn’t slowed down since. In fact, in 2022, you can expect nature to be incorporated in multiple spaces throughout the home, from floral wallpaper and fauna-patterned fabrics to wall prints, dried foliage and more.

6.) Green Everything

Because of the uptick in natural elements in homes, the color green is posed to make a huge comeback as well in 2022! Several different shades of green, from sage to emerald, are back in style and are being incorporated in kitchen cabinets, backsplashes, fabrics, wallpaper and more. The shade Evergreen Fog was even chosen as Sherwin Williams’ Color of the Year 2022!

7.) Locally Made Furnishings

As the rooms in our house now see daily, multifunctional use, we’re expecting to see more flexible and adaptive living spaces pop up throughout the next year. That means furniture that can be used for multiple purposes definitely has an edge on those that don’t! We’re talking desks with more storage, bedroom sets with built-in drawers, coffee tables that transform into dining spaces, and even Murphy beds to allow for more floor space.

10.) Japandi Style
