10 Exciting Fourth of July Events in the Omaha + Council Bluffs Area 2022
Independence Day is almost here! And here in Omaha, we do not let this day go by without proper celebration. There are several fireworks shows, block parties, parades, and other family-friendly events taking place all throughout the Omaha area leading up to the Fourth of July holiday.
Add one (or two!) of these Omaha area Fourth of July events to your calendar — you won’t want to miss out on all the patriotic celebrations. The best part? Many of these events are completely free to attend!
Kick off the holiday the weekend before with the annual Heartland Hope Mission Red, White, & Blue Block Party at their South Omaha location. This family-friendly event will include live music, free food, water slides, lawn games, bounce houses, and much more. Any proceeds and donations from the event go to support Heartland Hope Mission and their mission of helping families work toward self-sufficiency.
Make your way to Whitehawk Lake for the annual Whitehawk Neighborhood Fireworks Celebration, featuring a spectacular fireworks show and celebration. The party kicks off at 6 p.m., with music from P&J Band, a dynamic two-piece band that plays hits from the ‘60s to today. This event is completely free to attend!
Every year, the Friends of Lake Manawa light up the sky with a fireworks show in celebration of America’s birthday. Before the show at 10 p.m., guests can enjoy swimming and other festivities at Lake Manawa until dark. It’s a great way to kick off the holiday weekend with a bang!
We are eagerly anticipating the $300 million revitalization of the three riverfront parks in downtown Omaha, collectively referred to as The RiverFront! And after years of watching the progress of this project, we are excited for the grand opening for the first of the three parks to be completed, Gene Leahy Mall. This grand opening celebration is taking place all weekend long July 1–3, with several activities planned, including free concerts, a musical performance presented by UNO Theatre, and more! See the full list of events planned here. And follow The RiverFront on Facebook for the latest information as the weekend gets closer.
The Independence Day Celebration in Nebraska City isn’t your average Fourth of July event — this three-day festival has so much in store, including live music, family games, a cornhole tournament, a Color Dash, a car show, and much more. And of course, there will be an hour-long fireworks show of extravagant proportions! Don’t miss “Treestock” on Saturday, an all-day live concert featuring regional acts. Situated just west of Lincoln, Seward is a charming small town with fun things to do all year long — and their award-winning Fourth of July celebration is the perfect time to visit! After all, Seward is known as “Nebraska’s Official Fourth of July City,” which means they go all out for this patriotic holiday with celebrations like a parade, a car show, a craft show, a bike tour, a 5K, fireworks and so much more. This year’s theme for the 154th annual celebration is “Rally Round the Flag,” honoring the Nebraskans that served in the Civil War. Click here for their entire 2022 itinerary, which includes a pre-party on Saturday, events on Sunday, and the bulk of festivities on Monday.
Everyone is invited to the free community event at the Historic General Dodge House in Council Bluffs! There will be hamburgers, hot dogs, chips and water for free — and a Kona Ice truck with shaved ice for just $1 per cup. Plus, enjoy old-time music from Flatwater Drifters, readings from the Declaration of Independence, drawings, and more.
The Nebraska Wind Symphony is hosting the second of their free summer concerts on July 3. Bring a folding chair and/or blanket and enjoy some great music in The Granary District in Ralston! The evening kicks off with the NWS Swingtones at 6 p.m. and the NWS Symphonic Band at 7 p.m.
The community of Ralston definitely knows how to throw a good party, as evidenced by the annual Old Fashioned Fourth of July Celebration! The parade on the Fourth is the largest Independence Day parade in the state, and the post-parade festivities include fun booths, costumes, fire department water fights, dinner and a fireworks display. This exciting event draws an estimated 40,000 people each year — which is more than eight times the population of Ralston!
What’s more American than a good old-fashioned baseball game? Spend the evening under the stars at Werner Park as the Omaha Storm Chasers play the Toledo Mud Hens. And after the game, there will be a special Independence Day fireworks show presented by FNBO! Get your tickets for this patriotic night at the ballpark.
Happy Fourth!
