15 Halloween Events in the Omaha Area 2022

Halloween is creeping up around the corner, and the only thing scarier than ghosts and zombies is not celebrating the holiday properly! So thankfully, there are plenty of Halloween events in the Omaha area worth going to, from kid-friendly trick-or-treating events to adults-only costume contests, and every spooktacular activity in between.

Add these events to your calendar to get in the Halloween spirit!

 

Jack O’Lantern World

Where: Mahoney State Park, Ashland

When: September 30–October 30

Jack O’Lantern World is taking over Mahoney State Park throughout the entire month of October! Take a ¾-mile stroll through 17 immersive worlds of hand-carved jack o’lanterns designed by artisans. Plus, enjoy food and beverages from some of your favorite local food trucks! This event helps support Susan G. Komen; when you purchase tickets, you can make a donation to the organization in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

 

Cobweb Castle

Where: Omaha Children’s Museum, Omaha

When: October 1–30

Cobweb Castle is a Halloween tradition at the Omaha Children’s Museum — without all the frights. Your littlest ones can clamber their way through the spooky maze, scale the castle wall, and meet members of the Cobweb Court. During the special program Tuesday–Friday at 11 a.m. and 1:45 p.m., you’ll learn all about spiders and their awesome secrets, including how they help humans, how strong their webs are, and why we should be nice to these crawly creatures.

 

Omaha Zoo Ghouls and Glow

Where: Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium, Omaha

When: October 7-9, 14-16 + 21-30

The zoo’s un-frightful Ghouls and Glow event is a must for families during the Halloween season — and it’s supposed to be even bigger and better in 2022! More than 400 larger-than-life glowing lanterns, like dancing skeletons, ghosts, witches, wizards, a mummy band, and much more, will illuminate the Bay Family’s Children’s Adventure Trails. And just outside the lantern display, there will be hundreds of hand-carved pumpkins lining the zoo’s pathways, as well as a 14-foot-tall pumpkin tree. Plus, each night, there will be trick-or-treating — but be sure to bring your own bag to collect treats! Enjoy circus acts like fire dancing, aerials and juggling from Omaha Circus Arts, percussion performances from Omaha Street Percussion, a magic show from Joe Cole’s Magic Show, exciting DJ music, and more. New this year, Fisherman’s Landing will have s’mores kits and miniature pumpkins to decorate. And there’s something for the parents on Friday and Saturday nights — two bars with seasonal alcoholic beverages!

Free Friday Movie Nights at Ditmars Orchard

Where: Ditmars Orchard, Council Bluffs

When: October 14, 21 + 28

All fall long, Ditmars Orchard is hosting their Free Friday Movie Nights series, and in October, things get spooky, with E.T. playing on October 14, Beetlejuice on October 21, and Ghostbusters on October 28. Orchard activities end at 6 p.m., but the Orchard Cafe, Sweet Shoppe and Bar will stay open throughout the movie, which begins at dusk. They serve a variety of wines, hard cider, pop, water, snacks, popcorn, and even entrees with fresh ingredients grown on the farm! Bring your own blankets, chairs and bug spray and enjoy a beautiful fall evening under the stars.

 

Howl-O-Ween Safari

Where: Wildlife Safari Park, Ashland

When: October 14 + 15

Wildlife Safari Park is hosting their annual Howl-O-Ween Safari, a family-friendly celebration, safari style! Go on a hayrack ride, enjoy dinner and Halloween-themed games, roast some marshmallows, and experience the great outdoors. This event is designed for families with children ages 3-12 but everyone is welcome. Admission is $20 per person and free for children under 2, and includes a hot dog dinner with chips and hot chocolate or lemonade — plus a treat bag for each participant!

 

Trick-or-Treat Days

Where: Omaha Children’s Museum, Omaha

When: October 15, 22 + 29

Don’t miss Trick-or-Treat Days at the Omaha Children’s Museum! Treat tables will be spread out throughout the museum and special seasonal exhibits, including Cobweb Castle and Moon to Mars, will be open, in addition to all permanent exhibits. Costumes are encouraged! This special event is included with regular museum admission, while supplies last.

 

La Vista Howl-o-ween

Where: La Vista Dog Park at Southwind Park, La Vista

When: October 20

We can’t leave our fur babies out of all the Halloween fun! Dress up your dog in their finest costume and snap a picture of them in front of the fall-themed backdrop at La Vista Howl-o-ween at the dog park at Southwind Park. And be sure to stop by the City booth to pick up a locally baked treat from Long Dog Fat Cat and other giveaways for your pup. And don’t forget to treat yourself with a free hot beverage from Jo-on-the-Go!

 

Baseballoween

Where: Werner Park, Papillion

When: October 21

Head to Werner Park for the 11th annual Baseballoween! Wear your favorite costume and trick-or-treat around the concourse while a movie plays on the video board. Admission to this family-friendly event is completely free!

 

The Great HALL-oween Haunt

Where: The Durham Museum, Omaha

The Durham Museum and other community organizations are hosting The Great HALL-oween Haunt for some trick-or-treating fun! Come in costume and collect sweets from historical characters and spooktacular displays throughout the museum. Plus, you can try your hand at ghostly games and creepy crafts, ride on the Haunted Train, and crawl your way through the Cobweb Caboose. And everyone’s favorite, the dancing zombies, are back this year! You may purchase tickets at the door but advanced tickets are recommended due to the popularity of this event.

 

Trick-or-Treating at The Hoff

Where: PACE, Council Bluffs

When: October 28

Pottawattamie Arts, Culture & Entertainment (PACE) in Council Bluffs is hosting a trick-or-treating event for all ages on October 28! From 4:30 to 6, knock on doors and fill a bucket with your favorite sweets, then stick around for gallery flashlight tours, chainsaw pumpkin carving, and more. Keep in mind: adults must be accompanied by a child!

 

Halloween Costume Contest

Where: PACE, Council Bluffs

When: October 28

Halloween Costume Contest at PACE Council Bluffs, IA

Put on your finest costume to compete for victory (and some cool prizes) at the first ever costume contest at PACE! The first place winner will receive a gift basket with a cash prize, four drink tickets to McCormicks, two free meals at a pop-up restaurant, two free class registrations of your choice, two free tickets to Cemetery Club, and $25 PACE Bucks. This event is for those 21 and over and there is a $5 entry fee.

 

Trunk or Treat at Farnam Hill

Where: Zen Coffee Company, Omaha

When: October 29

Zen Coffee Company is hosting a trick-or-treating event with a variety of activities, including games, face painting, bounce houses, local food, local shopping, and more. Vote for your favorite non-profit trunk and the winning non-profit will receive all the proceeds from this event!

 

Scales and Tails

Where: Fontenelle Forest, Bellevue

Answer the many questions you may have pondered, like can an owl turn its head all the way around? Do snakes blink? And what is a vulture’s defense when they are scared? At Scales and Tails, you’ll discover the answers to these questions and more facts about some of the resident animals at Fontenelle Forest. This fun family program will include slime making, decorating and eating spooky cookies, and other educational activities. Scales and Tails will be taking place indoors and outdoors, so be sure to dress for the weather!

 

Rockbrook Village Halloween Event

Where: Rockbrook Village, Omaha

When: October 29

Rockbrook Village is hosting a special Halloween event in the plaza the Saturday before Halloween. There will be a special meet and greet with Chase from Paw Patrol from 2–2:45 and with Woody from Toy Story from 2:45–3:30. Be sure to stroll through the village and enjoy trick-or-treating at participating stores throughout the event, which is completely free!

 

Ghoulish Garden Adventure

Where: Lauritzen Gardens, Omaha

Just in time for Halloween, go on a Ghoulish Garden Adventure at Lauritzen Gardens. This event will feature a variety of fun and educational activity stations throughout the garden, including a haunted Halloween village, a spooktacular photobooth, trick-or-treating, a model railroad garden ghost town, creepy crawlies with “The Bug Guy,” a reading nook, creepy crafts, and more. Activities are included with paid garden admission of $15 for adults and $9 for children ages 3–12. Garden members and children under 2 are admitted free of charge!
