6 Glamping Destinations Near Omaha to Book This Spring + Summer, Mapped
It’s almost time for our favorite spring and summer pastime: camping! And while we love experiencing the great outdoors, sometimes you want a little less of the things that come along with nature, like mosquitoes, lack of A/C, and uncomfortable air mattresses.
Glamping to the rescue! Glamping, or glamorous camping, combines the comforts of home with the beauty and serenity of the great outdoors. In the Omaha area, there are several fantastic glamping destinations that offer a variety of accommodations, from luxurious tents to cozy tiny homes, and rustic yurts to log cabins. Whether you’re looking for a romantic getaway, a family vacation, or a solo adventure, glamping in the Omaha area is the best way to spend time outdoors. So book your staycation and get ready to experience nature in style!
Experience the outdoors like never before with a Wildlife Safari Park Campout in Ashland. During your stay, you’ll learn about native Nebraska and North American animals, have a campfire, and stargaze away from the city lights. The park offers three different accommodations, whether you’re a large group of 15+ or a small group/family. The Frog Lake Campout includes canvas tents on platforms with cots and a campfire pit near the wolf exhibit, while the Wildlife Education Center Campout is perfect for families with young kids who would prefer to stay in a building instead of a tent. For those who want to camp near their cars, the Wolf Woods Car Camping program offers an outdoor movie, campfire with s’mores, and a Night Watch educational program. The cost is $35-$45 per camper, which includes admission to Wildlife Safari Park for the following day and an educational and conservation experience. In response to a demand for unique experiences and enhanced camping opportunities, the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission has expanded activities and amenities at Platte River State Park and other state parks and recreation areas along the Platte River. The expanded features, called Venture Parks, include glamping cabins, which combine the comforts of upscale lodging with the rustic charm of camping. These three secluded cabins feature skylights and queen-sized beds that can be rolled onto the deck for sleeping under the stars. The cabins have polished concrete floors and raised stone fire pits, and large windows that let in natural light to create a cozy and comfortable atmosphere. Learn more about the glamping cabins and other Venture Parks amenities here!
Stay among the goats at Willow Valley Farms in Gretna! That’s right — this family-owned farm is home to the largest herd of San Clemente Island Goats in the world. Plus, they are also the 23rd certified pollinator habitat in Nebraska, and they sell honey, produce, canned goods, merchandise, and farm-fresh eggs. You can witness this whole operation up close by booking a stay in one of the adorable tiny houses on the property! They currently have two built with one coming soon. Each has a sleeping loft with a queen-sized bed, a sofa that folds down to a bed, a small kitchenette, a closet for storage, electric heat, a shower and hot water (during non-winter months), and a waterless composting toilet.
Kimberly Creek Retreat offers glamping experiences in a serene environment in Ashland, just 40 minutes southwest of Omaha. The property has several accommodations available, including luxurious cabins, geodesic domes, tiny homes, and Euro-style glamping pods. The domes and pods are especially unique — providing a more stripped-down stay than the more decked-out cabins and tiny homes. Yet they each have their own kitchen and private indoor restroom with a shower, providing a more comfortable stay. Plus, each is designed for outdoor dining and relaxing, with a fire pit, seating area, and a grill for cooking. Guests can enjoy hiking, fishing, or kayaking in the nearby Platte River, or relax and unwind in the tranquility of the natural surroundings.
Slattery Vintage Estates is a family-owned vineyard and tasting room in Nehawka, just about 45 minutes southwest of Omaha. The estate is situated on a picturesque 200-acre property and features a beautiful Victorian farmhouse, a rustic barn, and a charming tasting room. Plus, they offer glamping in their bungalows from mid-May through mid-October! These 12-by-14 or 14-by-16 tents are beautifully furnished with antiques and offer a range of bed sizes, including full size, queen or king, along with dressers, coffee service, tables and chairs, rugs, and soft bedding. The bungalows are fully electric, with lamps and fans/heaters to ensure your comfort throughout your stay. The bungalows are situated on decks with porches overlooking the vineyard, providing guests with stunning views of the surrounding countryside. Slattery Vintage Estates offers a variety of delicious wines, including reds, whites, and rosés, as well as a selection of craft beers. In addition to wine tastings, they also host a variety of events throughout the year, including live music, food and wine pairings, and special holiday events.
Loess Hills Hideaway is situated on 38 acres of hilly woodland, meadow and native prairie in the Loess Hills of Western Iowa. This location is just minutes from Preparation Canyon State Park, which offers public access to nearly 12,000 acres of excellent hiking and deer and turkey hunting. The property has several cabins to choose from, from the two-bedroom Homestead Cabin that sleeps six to the one-room cabins that sleep four with a queen bed and bunk bed. Some of their cabins do not have plumbing, but their modern bathhouse, complete with toilets, showers and double sinks, is only about a block away. All cabins have excellent outdoor spaces, with picnic tables, fire pits, and other amenities, to provide a true “glamping” experience!
Happy Glamping!
