Growing up with midwest summers is an opportunity our children are blessed to experience, especially in the Omaha area. We have access to southwestern Iowa destinations like Loess Hills State Forest<\/a> and educational institutions like Omaha\u2019s Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium<\/a> and Lauritzen Gardens<\/a>.<\/p>\n

But you don\u2019t have to take time off work for your children to enjoy everything the region has to offer \u2014\u00a0though we do recommend getting outside more than a few times! When you\u2019re not exploring Zorinsky Lake as a family<\/a> or celebrating at a nearby festival, we suggest signing your children up for a local summer camp. That way, they can learn, play and experience Omaha all summer long. And the best part is, they\u2019ll go back to school having learned even more over the long break!<\/p>\n

The Durham Museum<\/a><\/h2>\n
Who: Kids\u00a0in grades 1-6
\nWhen: One-week sessions May 29-August 3<\/h6>\n

The Durham Museum is celebrating the summer with 19 different themed camps. Find the perfect camp for your family<\/a> \u2014 from detective mysteries and Harry Potter adventures to local history, film production and everything in between!<\/p>\n

Outside of the camps, the museum is offering Summer Fun Days to provide you some flexibility during the holiday weeks. Available the weeks of Memorial Day and Independence Day, you can choose from eight different themes and days, and choose to attend for the whole week, several days or even just one day.<\/p>\n

The Omaha zoo has five different camp options to choose from with 38 themes and even more dates throughout the season! Camp Legacy has been consistently named in the Best of Omaha rankings as one of the area’s best youth summer camps since 2015. Beginning May 29, your children can participate in Lower Camp for ages 3-5 or Upper Camp for Kindergarten through 6th grade. With Mini-Camp, Full-Day Camp and extended care options, it’s the perfect choice for varying schedules, and your kids can be safe, be active and learn all season long! One of our favorite parts about Camp Legacy is that registration never closes as long as there are spaces available. So there’s no deadline to register!<\/p>\n

In Omaha Magazine’s Best of Omaha 2014 rankings, UNO was ranked second amongst youth summer camps offered in the Omaha metro area! With 16 different camps \u2014\u00a0from sports to tech to jazz \u2014\u00a0you can\u2019t go wrong choosing one of these camps for your children. Camp ages range from elementary through high school based on the program.<\/p>\n

If you want to keep your kids moving all season, the UNO sports camps include basketball, soccer, volleyball and swimming!<\/p>\n

On top its\u00a0daily programming<\/a> and exhibits<\/a> for you and your kids to enjoy, Omaha Children\u2019s Museum is offering 26 themed day camps this summer with multiple sessions and dates. Register your four year old for Mini Jedi Training, or get your budding Harry Potter fan involved in the Wizardry Academy (new this year)! There\u2019s something for every child between 4 and 8-years-old \u2014\u00a0from science and art to animals and even a dinosaur safari.<\/p>\n

Creighton Jr. Jays Day Camps<\/a><\/h2>\n

This summer, Creighton’s soccer programs for men and women will be offering various summer camps for your budding soccer players aged 5 to 18. If you\u2019re child has ever wanted to be an astronaut, now\u2019s the time to practice! The SAC Aerospace Museum is celebrating summer, space and education with one, three and five-day camps. Whether the camp has a robotics, flight or military theme, your kids can learn and experience everything there is to love about air and space. Grades range from 1st to 8th depending on the camp, and children will be divided based on their age.<\/p>\n

City of Omaha Parks<\/a><\/h2>\n

If your child has a love for the outdoors and a rambunctious sense of adventure, register today for a City of Omaha Parks summer camp. Hummel Day Camp is an outdoor nature-based program that has remained a symbol of summer fun for Omaha’s children for over 65 years. And just recently, the department has added camps at Hanscom and Zorinsky! Any one of the programs are perfect for anyone hoping to learn more about nature while being immersed in it.<\/p>\n

In the spring of 1926, the Jewish Community Center of Omaha opened its doors, immediately offering a safe place for every child and family in our community. Now, thousands of campers later, the Jewish Community Center of Omaha Summer Camp has evolved into one of the premiere programs in the city. The center\u2019s staff completes over 25 hours of training, including American Red Cross Safety, CPR and First Aid workshops so you know your child will be safe all summer.<\/p>\n

Your children will enjoy access to waterslides, motion ocean, the lazy river, go-karts and mini golf \u2014\u00a0including behind the scenes tours so they can learn how everything works, including how to be a lifeguard! Other activities include crafts, scavenger hunts and field games. A low camper-to-staff ratio and controlled environment ensure safety and plenty of fun!<\/p>\n

Fine Lines: Camp for Creative Writers<\/a><\/h2>\n

Since 1991, Fine Lines has provided a place where creative writers can share their written ideas. Fine Lines\u2019 Camp for Creative Writers, held June 19-23 this year, invites students of all ages to join in the fun. Henry Fonda Theatre Academy is the educational wing of the Omaha Community Playhouse. By cultivating creativity and personal growth, each program will increase your child\u2019s confidence, knowledge and, most importantly, their sense of adventure. There are four themes offered for youth classes this summer with multiple dates and age ranges.<\/p>\n

In addition to those camps, the academy is hosting their annual Player\u2019s Production from July 17 through July 28. Formerly known as First Stage Theatre Academy, Player\u2019s Production is a two-week intensive that immerses students in the art of theatre \u2014\u00a0from directing to dancing and singing. The program ends with a full length production for the whole family to see what the kids have been working on!<\/p>\n

Oxbow Animal Health: Veterinarian Camps<\/b><\/a><\/h2>\n

Oxbow is a small mammal health food company located in the Omaha area. As one of the premier educators in small animal care, they offer the perfect opportunity for your children to dabble in veterinarian work. The four-day camp includes many hands-on activities involving live animals, games and unique crafts, and culminates with a mock surgery on the last day! Campers even get their very own set of scrubs and a stethoscope to take home.<\/span><\/p>\n

For the local adventurers, Expedition Omaha is our go-to choice this summer! It\u2019s a full week of outdoor and indoor fun hosted by Approach Climbing Gym. There will be rock climbing, outdoor education, guided hikes, trips to the raptor refuge, stand up paddle boarding, ice skating, slack lining and much more! The camp is offered once in each summer month \u2014\u00a0June, July and August \u2014\u00a0so register today<\/a>.<\/p>\n
