Omaha is hosting a wide variety of spectacular shows, soul-warming cooking classes and merry festivals this year \u2014 all bound to get you in the holiday spirit.<\/p>\n

We gathered up some of the events we are most looking forward to this year, so get out those calendars, don your ugliest sweater, and get ready to make this the jolliest holiday season yet.<\/p>\n

A Christmas Carol<\/a><\/h3>\n

The season wouldn\u2019t be complete without a showing of A Christmas Carol<\/i>! Ebenezer Scrooge will take the stage in Omaha this year, and everyone is invited to join him on his journey to discover the true meaning of Christmas. The costumes, set design and music are second to none!<\/p>\n

A Charlie Brown Christmas Live on Stage<\/a><\/h3>\n
When: November 18, 1 pm and 4 pm <\/i><\/h6>\n

Join Charlie Brown, Snoopy, Lucy, Linus and the rest of the Peanuts crew as they take the stage for this truly heartwarming holiday performance at Omaha\u2019s Orpheum Theater. People of all ages are guaranteed to fall in love with the story.<\/p>\n

The Holly Jolly Boutique<\/a><\/h3>\n
When: November 18, 10 am-4 pm <\/i><\/h6>\n

Shop art, jewelry, edible treats and more from dozens of local artisans at this holiday craft fair! You\u2019re bound to find some stocking stuffers for that special someone, and rumor has it that Santa himself will be making an appearance for the kids.<\/p>\n

The Opening Ceremony for the NRG Energy Ice Rink in the Capitol District<\/a><\/h3>\n
When: November 21 <\/i><\/h6>\n
Where: The Capitol District, 11th and Capitol Avenue, Omaha<\/i><\/h6>\n

The NRG Energy Ice Rink will have a new home this year in Omaha\u2019s Capitol District<\/a>! Come by for the opening ceremony on November 21 and be among the first to carve the ice surrounded by brilliant lights and festive music. The outdoor rink will be open through Valentine\u2019s Day (weather permitting), and a portion of the proceeds will benefit the Food Bank for the Heartland<\/a>. <\/i><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The Thanksgiving Lighting Ceremony<\/a><\/h3>\n
When: November 23, 5:40 pm <\/i><\/h6>\n
Where: The Gene Leahy Pedestrian Mall, Omaha\u00a0<\/i><\/h6>\n

Nothing will get you in the holiday spirit quite like the Lighting Ceremony, which takes place in our city every year on Thanksgiving Day. This year, enjoy a musical performance by the Omaha Children\u2019s Choir at 5:40 pm, and then at 6 pm, join Mayor Jean Stothert in a countdown to the spectacular lighting display at the Gene Leahy Pedestrian Mall. Afterward, Jingle Bell Brass will spread Christmas cheer with a special holiday performance.<\/p>\n

Following the ceremony, don\u2019t miss the opportunity to jump start your holiday shopping! Some of Old Market\u2019s finest shops, restaurants and pubs will be open, and there will be horse-drawn carriages available to enjoy with loved ones.<\/p>\n

The Making Spirits Bright Holiday Concert<\/a><\/h3>\n
When: November 23, 7 pm <\/i><\/h6>\n
Where: The Holland Performing Arts Center, Omaha<\/i><\/h6>\n

Located just across from the Thanksgiving Lighting Ceremony, the Holland Performing Arts Center will host vocalist Camille Metoyer Moten and the Nebraska Wind Symphony for a free, family-friendly holiday concert after the festivities.<\/p>\n

The Tree Lighting Ceremony at Union Station<\/a><\/h3>\n
When: November 24, 4-8 pm <\/i><\/h6>\n
Where: The Durham Museum, Omaha\u00a0<\/i><\/h6>\n

The Durham Museum will host a fabulous holiday celebration following Thanksgiving! Enjoy cookie decorating, holiday crafts, live music, a display of Christmas trees from around the world, and even a visit from Santa himself \u2014 all for the price of regular museum admission.<\/p>\n

The 14th Annual Lighting Ceremony at Village Pointe<\/a><\/h3>\n
When: November 24, 6-10 pm <\/i><\/h6>\n

Come to see the giant tree lit up at the Village Pointe Shopping Center! Enjoy a family-friendly concert at 6 pm followed by free hot cider, cookies and carriage rides \u2014 and don\u2019t miss the arrival of Santa in the Santa Parade at 7 pm.<\/p>\n

The Lights of Aksarben<\/a><\/h3>\n

A heated tent, free horse and carriage rides, face painting, ROAST coffee and cocoa, treats, and visits from Santa and Mrs. Claus are just a few of the things that await you at this tree lighting festival<\/a>. Don\u2019t miss it!<\/p>\n

The Holiday Poinsettia Show<\/a><\/h3>\n

Each Saturday during the holidays, Sounds of the Season will showcase the talent of local choral groups ranging from youths to professional performers.
