Last year, Omaha got an early holiday gift in the form of a brand new entertainment district in the heart of the city<\/a>! The Capitol District offers a modern twist on a town square filled with adorable shops, upscale restaurants, swanky bars, cozy cafes, luxury apartments and overnight accommodations.<\/p>\n

If you\u2019ve tasted the handcrafted cocktails and vast whiskey selection at Burdock + Bitters<\/a>, sampled the Nebraska-inspired fare at Society 1854<\/a>, or even just soaked in the sunshine in the plaza while people watching, you know just how special the Capitol District<\/a> is when it comes to a fun day or night out on the town. But soon, Omaha residents will have even more to love!<\/p>\n

The Capitol District will welcome an abundance of new shops and developments this summer, including several restaurants, a karaoke bar, a speakeasy, a jazz club and a touring exhibition. \u201cOur next phase of restaurants and entertainment venues with Midwest owners and operators will add to our destination dining and entertainment experience,\u201d said Mike Moylan of Shamrock Development. \u201cEach one will give people something new to discover in downtown Omaha as they open throughout 2018.\u201d<\/p>\n

New Capitol District Restaurants<\/h2>\n

Lighthouse Pizza<\/a><\/h4>\n

We can all agree that every entertainment district needs a great pizza joint \u2014 and our wishes have been granted in the form of Lighthouse Pizza<\/a>! This fun and casual eatery already has a home base on Omaha\u2019s west side (1004 S 74th Plaza<\/a>), but will open a new location in the Capitol District in the coming months. Enjoy a whopping nine-inch slice of \u2018za, dig into a basket of fries with indulgent toppings, and sample the wide variety of beer on tap. Menu favorites include the mac & cheese pizza (with roast chicken, bacon, macaroni and Alfredo sauce), the Thai chicken pizza (with green peppers, onions, sweet chili and Thai peanut sauce), or the Ed & Sal (bacon, parmesan garlic fries and Lighthouse sauce).<\/p>\n

J. Gilbert\u2019s\u00a0<\/a><\/h4>\n

This small steakhouse chain based in Kansas City has outposts in several Midwestern cities. After taking a glance at the menu, we are more than happy to welcome it with open arms to Omaha! Whether you\u2019re on the hunt for an elegant date night spot, a fun place to catch up with friends, or just a high-quality meal, you\u2019ll find what you\u2019re looking for at J. Gilbert\u2019s<\/a>. The menu features straightforward cocktails, mouthwatering steaks and seafood dishes, and a selection of sides that are delicious enough to stand alone.<\/p>\n

Burgerim<\/a><\/h4>\n

You might have guessed from the name that Burgerim serves burgers. But did you know that the burgers are slider-sized and made to order? The smaller size allows customers to try several different (and delectable) combinations in one meal. Choose from 11 patty options (including vegetarian and vegan choices), six sauces, nine toppings and three different buns. The opportunities are endless!<\/p>\n

\u00c9poca Cantina <\/a><\/h4>\n

Omaha restaurateur Juan Magana already has an excellent reputation. He is the mastermind behind the Corner Kick (in Milliard) and the Hoppy Taco (in Dundee), and he is now preparing to open his third concept, \u00c9poca Cantina, in the heart of the Capitol District. Expect a colorful hotspot for Mexican street food and margaritas!<\/p>\n

Moe & Curly\u2019s <\/a><\/h4>\n

Moe & Curly\u2019s, a west Omaha-based staple for karaoke, casual cocktails and beer on tap, is gearing up to expand their business into the Capitol District. The pub will offer karaoke seven days a week, along with the same, fun, dive-bar atmosphere that Omahans have grown to know and love.<\/p>\n

Howard and Fine<\/h4>\n

On the other end of the spectrum, we\u2019re expecting the addition of a fine speakeasy with craft cocktails and upscale hors d’oeuvres. Howard and Fine is a new concept from the owners of Moe & Curly\u2019s, but (because it\u2019s a speakeasy), that\u2019s all we can share with you. You will have to discover the bar\u2019s secrets for yourself!<\/p>\n

The Jewell<\/h4>\n

The Jewell will be a live music and dining experience that is original to the Capitol District. The high-end jazz club will host national acts and emerging local artists alike in an intimate setting, and guests can enjoy their offerings alongside craft cocktails, high-end entr\u00e9es and shareables, and an extensive wine list. It\u2019s the perfect setting for date night!<\/p>\n
