Memorial Day is fast approaching! This three-day weekend is not only the unofficial start of summer, but it\u2019s also an opportunity for us to honor the people who have fought so bravely for our country.<\/p>\n

In Omaha, we like to celebrate this important holiday with some of our favorite things \u2014 baseball, music and competition. That includes some anticipated summer festivals, plenty of family fun, and even a few camel and ostrich races!<\/p>\n

So gather your family and friends, throw a party of your own or join in the fun at any of these local events!<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

2019 Big Ten Baseball Tournament <\/a><\/h2>\n

Where: <\/i>TD Ameritrade Park <\/i><\/a><\/p>\n

When: May 22-26<\/i><\/p>\n

Since its debut in 2014, the Big Ten Baseball Tournament has been a popular staple on the annual Omaha community calendar. Every year, the tournament invites the iconic Big Ten to compete at TD Ameritrade Park<\/a>. The winners will return to Omaha to compete for the NCAA College World Series<\/a> in June so make sure to pay a visit to cheer on your favorite team!<\/p>\n

La Vista Salute to Summer Festival<\/a><\/h2>\n

Where: <\/i>La Vista Central Park<\/i><\/a><\/p>\n

When: May 23-26<\/i><\/p>\n

Celebrate the beginning of the season at this annual summer event! The festivities will kick off with a parade (complete with plenty of dancing and local marching bands) before a community cookout, live concert and fireworks.<\/p>\n

Take Aim at Summer <\/a><\/h2>\n

Where: <\/i>Platte River State Park, Louisville<\/i><\/a><\/p>\n

When: May 24, 4-8 p.m.<\/i><\/p>\n

Kick off your summer at this exciting event for the whole family at Platte River State Park<\/a>! Try your hand at archery, shooting sports, outdoor cooking, games and plenty of other activities \u2014 all for free and under the guidance of expert volunteers!<\/p>\n

Blue Pomegranate Garden Party<\/a><\/h2>\n

Where: <\/i>618 South 184th Street, Elkhorn<\/i><\/a><\/p>\n

When: May 24-26, 10 a.m.-6 p.m.<\/i><\/p>\n

\"Memorial<\/p>\n

Sondra Gerber, artist, and Blue Pomegranate<\/a> owner will be opening her picturesque backyard to the public this year during Memorial Day weekend! You can come see it for yourself while you shop for unique, handmade garden art.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Legendary Summer Kick Off<\/a><\/h2>\n

Where: <\/i>Omaha Children\u2019s Museum<\/i><\/a><\/p>\n

When: May 25, 9 a.m.<\/i><\/p>\n

This unique fun run is unlike any other with the addition of dragons, unicorns, royals and plenty other legendary people and creatures! The run is just a short dash down 20th Street and children are encouraged to dress up. This event will kick off summer at the Omaha Children\u2019s Museum<\/a> and the special exhibit, Enchanted Kingdom<\/a>, which features dragons, unicorns and rock golem, which you and your family can visit after the run!<\/p>\n

Dress in All White Day Party <\/a><\/h2>\n

Where: <\/i>SandBar Grille<\/i><\/a><\/p>\n

When: May 25, 4 p.m.<\/i><\/p>\n

Memorial Day is the day when we can finally start wearing white again! Go all out and celebrate at the annual Dress in All White Day Party at the Sandbar Grille<\/a>. This year, the party falls on Africa Day Weekend so you can expect fantastic African and international music from local and guest DJs, fun games and plenty of great food.<\/p>\n

GEARs 24th Annual Car Show<\/a><\/h2>\n

Where: <\/i>MCC Elkhorn Campus<\/i><\/a><\/p>\n

When: May 26, 8 a.m.-2 p.m.<\/i><\/p>\n

G.E.A.R.s<\/a>, or Greater Elkhorn Area Rods, will be hosting their 24th Annual Car Show this Memorial Day weekend! Enter your hot rod or just stop by to take a gander at the stunning cars. Judging will take place from 12-2 p.m. and awards will be given to the first, second and third place cars in each class. Proceeds from the event will go towards scholarships in memory of G.E.A.R.s members.<\/p>\n

Camel and Ostrich Races<\/a><\/h2>\n

Where: <\/i>Horsemen\u2019s Park Horse Track<\/i><\/a><\/p>\n

You won\u2019t want to miss this eclectic racing event hosted by Horseman\u2019s Park Horse Track<\/a> this Memorial Day weekend! Come out and watch the nail-biting race between camels and ostriches before heading over to enjoy the free petting zoo, face painting and so much more.<\/p>\n

BSO Riverfront Blues Bash<\/a><\/h2>\n

Where: <\/i>Miller\u2019s Landing<\/i><\/a><\/p>\n

When: May 26, 3-10 p.m.<\/i><\/p>\n

Join the Blues Society of Omaha<\/a> and the River City Star<\/a> for their annual summer kickoff! The festivities will include tons of great music and delicious food along with beautiful views of the Missouri River. The impressive lineup will feature fantastic blues artists like the Hector Anchondo Band<\/a>, Chris Ruest<\/a>, Eve Moonses and Mike Buck!<\/p>\n

Yoga Rocks the Park<\/a><\/h2>\n

Where: <\/i>Midtown Crossing at Turner Park<\/i><\/a><\/p>\n

This fun yoga class is hosted each week by the area\u2019s most inspiring yoga teachers and is perfect for beginner and advanced yogis alike. Afterward, stay to enjoy performances from local artists and musicians! The class is free, but a $5 donation is encouraged. All proceeds will benefit Gift of Sight<\/a>, a nonprofit that combats unnecessary blindness all around the globe.<\/p>\n

Down Under 5th Annual Bar Olympics<\/a><\/h2>\n

Get a little exercise in for a great cause at this year\u2019s Boys Town<\/a> Memorial Day Run! Children and adults of all ages are invited to participate in one of three race options; the 400-meter fun run, the one-mile, or the five-mile walk\/run. All proceeds will go to benefit the Lied Learning and Technology Center for Childhood Deafness and Vision Disorders<\/a>.<\/p>\n
