In the last couple of months, hundreds of thousands of people around the world have made a sudden pivot to working remotely. While this has been an easy transition for some, for others it has been a challenge to create a sudden work-from-home space right on the spot. And, even though restrictions are slowly easing here in Omaha, there are still many individuals who are planning on staying home for a few more weeks or months, making a cozy home workspace still very necessary.<\/p>\n

To give you some inspiration, we’ve rounded up a few tips\u2014along with some DIYs from local bloggers. Whether you just want to add a few homey touches or want to redecorate the entire space, these tips will help your WFH space work for you. Enjoy!<\/p>\n

Decorating Tips<\/h2>\n

Give yourself a view<\/h3>\n

Research shows that individuals with more natural light in their space are more productive \u2014\u00a0and happier, healthier and calmer. So when creating your ideal work-from-home locale, make sure to organize it so your desk is facing a window. Not only will it give you something else to look at other than a wall, but it will also help you stay on task and eliminate some of those cabin-fever blues.<\/p>\n

Organize vertically and horizontally<\/h3>\n

Many home office spaces aren’t massive, so using the space efficiently is imperative. That’s why we recommend organizing your gear vertically as well as horizontally. Hang floating shelves on walls to get papers and office supplies off your desk and use vertical file folders on your desk to keep important papers within arm’s reach. Cube storage is also a great way to maximize organization space while also having spots to display your favorite odds and ends.<\/p>\n

Use what you already have<\/h3>\n

When it comes to suddenly having to work from home when you’re used to going into an office every day, splurging on a bunch of new office supplies may not be in the budget. Instead, look around your house for desks, lamps, staplers, notebooks that may have found themselves buried in closets, attics, or spare rooms over the years. Who knew that the dusty package of sticky notes in your junk drawer would come in handy these days?<\/p>\n

Add some humor<\/h3>\n

You’re going to be sitting in that space all day, so you might as well get a few fun objects to place around your desk that make you smile! Whether it’s a dachshund tape dispenser, a desk plate with a funny quote on it, or a box of quirky paper clips, the cute items you surround yourself with can make all the difference in your mood come workday.<\/p>\n

This may be an obvious tip, but make sure to not forget to include a trash bin in your new work-from-home digs. Having a handy spot to throw junk mail, used notes, snack trash and other waste is an underrated way to keep your space clean and organized.<\/p>\n

Unless you’re going a more “contemporary route,” choose accessories that enhance the comfy feeling of a home office. There’s not much you can do to beautify the computer, printer, and phone, but you can hide unsightly cords. Start by making sure your equipment is close to outlets and easy to access if you need to unplug. Then use handy cable clips or organizers to help wrangle the cord jungle.\u00a0 You’ll be amazed at the difference it will make!<\/p>\n

Treat yourself with a comfortable chair<\/h3>\n
