A short trip in Omaha can be made amazing if you know the ins and outs and the must-sees of our awesome city. If you\u2019re coming for a visit, or even thinking about <\/span>relocating<\/span><\/a> here some day, we\u2019ve compiled a list of everything you need right here: things to see, eat, drink and experience. So get ready to plan the best Omaha weekend ever, whether you\u2019re alone or with the whole family! <\/span><\/p>\n

Where to Stay<\/h2>\n

Omaha is a place for families, couples and single adventurers alike. However, if you’re interested in a more luxurious experience, <\/span>Hotel Deco<\/span><\/a> may be for you. It has beautiful art deco designs, rich amenities and it\u2019s perfectly located in downtown Omaha. Magnolia Hotel<\/span><\/a> is another great option, and one of our favorites! This historic hotel boasts vintage, boutique-style rooms and it\u2019s located right down the street from Old Market. Since Old Market boasts a variety of <\/span>shopping and dining options<\/span><\/a>, you\u2019ll be able to conveniently walk and explore the area from your hotel room. <\/span><\/p>\n

What to See<\/h2>\n

Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge<\/b>: Often referred to just as \u201c<\/span>Bob<\/span><\/a>,\u201d this pedestrian bridge connects the heart of Omaha to Council Bluffs, Iowa. There is a mark in the middle of the bridge where you can stand in both states at the same time, so it\u2019s basically a mandatory photo opp while in Omaha. Visiting the bridge in the evening is also fun, as it\u2019s completely lit up providing an amazing view of the Omaha skyline and the Missouri river. <\/span><\/p>\n

A Local Music Show<\/b>: Omaha is famous around the nation for its thriving music scene. Whether you\u2019re into small, intimate venues or larger shows with famous headliners, we have a bit of both and everything in between. <\/span>The Waiting Room<\/span><\/a>, <\/span>Slowdown<\/span><\/a> and <\/span>The Down Under Lounge<\/span><\/a> are all right in Downtown Omaha and have live music throughout the week. It\u2019s a must to get out there and experience the music Omaha has to offer! \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Old Market<\/b>: With brick paved roads, Old Market is historic meets adventurous. Always growing and thriving, it\u2019s right at the heart of downtown and is filled with character and social experiences, whether you\u2019re looking for something to do, something to buy, or just somewhere to explore and people watch. Boys Town Tour:<\/b> As a history buff, you may want to <\/span>take a tour of Boys Town<\/span><\/a> while you\u2019re here. Dating Omaha back to 1921, Father Flanagan provided shelter for many homeless boys in the area. His work spread worldwide, and eventually brought the success of the 1938 movie, \u201cBoys Town,\u201d which won an Academy Award. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Birthsite of Malcolm X:<\/b> While the home is no longer there, you can <\/span>visit the birthplace of civil rights leader Malcolm X<\/span><\/a>. A monument marks his birthplace in the grassy 12-acre area in north Omaha. And, it\u2019s completely free! \u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What to Eat<\/h2>\n

While in Omaha, eat like the Omahans, right? That means there are a few places and a couple meals you cannot miss. Breakfast<\/b>: <\/span>Overeasy<\/span><\/a> and <\/span>11 Worth Cafe<\/span><\/a> are local favorites for breakfast. Overeasy is a beautiful place boasting local and fresh food, while 11 Worth is a classic cafe serving up large, delicious portions. <\/span><\/p>\n

Lunch<\/b>: <\/span>Le Bouillon<\/span><\/a> serves French-inspired comfort food with Omaha style. <\/span>Big Mama\u2019s Kitchen<\/span><\/a> is the place to go for southern soul food, with a Fried Catfish Filet to die for. <\/span><\/p>\n

Spezia<\/span><\/a> is the place to go in Omaha for a beautifully crafted reuben, or you can try any of their delicious Italian dishes. <\/span>The Grey Plume<\/span><\/a> serves up farm-to-table food in Omaha style. Their menu changes as produce and livestock is available in the area so you\u2019re sure to get the best of Omaha no matter which season you stop by.<\/span><\/p>\n

Where to Grab a Drink<\/h2>\n

With a growing downtown, there\u2019s no shortage of places to grab a drink and find a unique experience at the same time. Below are our favorite places in the area where you can taste a craft beer, an artful cocktail, or a bit of both!<\/span><\/p>\n

Wicked Rabbit<\/span><\/a>: Omaha\u2019s first speakeasy bar and cocktail lounge. This is a must-see if you\u2019re looking for a fun time and a great drink! Also, it\u2019s conveniently located inside Hotel Deco downtown! <\/span><\/p>\n

Krug Park<\/span><\/a>: Named after a historical amusement park meets beer garden, Krug Park is most popular for its craft beer selection. However, they have a special place in their hearts for Bloody Marys; you can\u2019t miss out on their 13 variations!<\/span><\/p>\n

The Berry and Rye<\/span><\/a>: In the heart of Old Market, The Berry and Rye finds inspiration from Pre-Prohibition style cocktails and adds a modern, experimental twist. They craft their own ice and make sodas, syrups and bitters in house. While these artful cocktails take a little longer to prepare than you may be used to, each one is worth the wait!<\/span><\/p>\n

The Tavern<\/span><\/a>: The Tavern serves up delicious drinks alongside live music, art, poetry and live DJs. A local drink spot for every working man, they claim unpretentiousness and a comfortable atmosphere. <\/span><\/p>\n

The Homy Inn<\/span><\/a>: This laid-back neighborhood \u201cdive bar\u201d is a must-visit if you\u2019re a Champagne lover! They offer a unique atmosphere, but the main attraction is four different types of Champagne on tap, as well as Sangria. <\/span><\/p>\n

What to do with Kids<\/h2>\n

Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium<\/span><\/a>: The Omaha Zoo is regularly awarded the best zoo in the country with several achievements in the entire continent. With or without kids, the 130 acres of gardens and exhibits is a must-see. However, the kids will especially love all the <\/span>interactive feedings and shows<\/span><\/a> throughout the day. At <\/span>Red Barn Park<\/span><\/a> they can dig, play, learn and interact with various animals! <\/span><\/p>\n

Omaha Children\u2019s Museum<\/span><\/a>: The children\u2019s museum is packed with fun and adventure for various age groups. Everyone can enjoy making art at the <\/span>Creative Arts Center<\/span><\/a> and getting hands on in the <\/span>Maker-Space<\/span><\/a>.
