From local rock and roll groups to world famous indie musicians \u2014\u00a0there\u2019s a bit of everything on this list! Then Conor, the lead singer, began a solo career that has taken off. His newest album was inspired by his hometown. After more than a decade in New York City, he moved back to Omaha and hibernated for the season. He said, \u201cI wasn\u2019t expecting to write a record. I honestly wasn\u2019t expecting to do much of anything. Winter in Omaha can have a paralyzing effect on a person, but in this case, it worked in my favor. Split between Westside High School and Bryan High School, they eventually came together and realized they had amazing musical chemistry. Since releasing their first album in 1993, they\u2019ve been touring non-stop with frequent appearances in Omaha. Ever since, they\u2019ve been impressing audiences with their gritty, blues rock sound, playing like veterans to the genre. Pulling inspiration from Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, The Black Keys, Jack White and The Beatles, these guys are in with the right crowd. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At the beginning of this year, the band\u2019s bassist moved to California. They played an amazing farewell show with local bands <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/supermoondoom\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Super Moon<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/theambulanters\/?fref=ts\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Ambulanters<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and promised we would see them again. In past solo endeavors, he has played all the instruments and done all the production, but for \u201cEverything Happens for the First Time\u201d (released in 2013) he welcomed other artists and voices for the first time. This expanded the album and allowed him to explore new avenues with his music \u2014\u00a0while staying true to his original style. Throughout their three studio albums, you\u2019ll hear catchy lyrics and rhythms contrasted with dark, bass-heavy backgrounds. Gritty vocals, guitars, a tuba, a flute and a cello all work together to produce their unique and heartwarming sound. Frontman Justin Lamoureux\u2019s passion for music, his lyrics, and the band show through in every song and at every show. Rumored to be the feel-good band of the century, their free spirit and celebratory music is sure to leave you dancing and grinning \u2014\u00a0no matter where you listen. They came together in 2001 when a few local bands dissolved, and even recorded their first album in <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.conoroberst.com\/02\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Conor Oberst<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2019s garage! Then, in 2005 Tilly and the Wall became the first \u201cband in residence\u201d at the Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Since then, a few members have moved on to other musical endeavors. <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/weareyesyouare.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Yes You Are<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, out of Kansas City, is the product of Kianna, singer and bassist for Tilly and the Wall. The band\u2019s original, electric punk sound can be heard on <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/artist\/2dsXb3lvdajcCHgWZS4vxr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Spotify<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/thefaint\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Faint<\/a><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Faint had a slow start on the Omaha music scene, but once they began to grow in popularity they didn\u2019t slow down. A staple in the area since 1999, the band has created a niche in Omaha for a uniquely funky, rock genre. They\u2019ve even been called the pioneers of our city\u2019s electro-punk scene! Earlier this year they released a brand new single, \u201c<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/album\/79CqYf6D79g2JEQjpIOAbW\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Skylab1979<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,\u201d and announced an upcoming album, <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/saddle-creek.com\/store\/722\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">CAPSULE: 1999 \u2013\u00a02016<\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which will cover hits over their entire career. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><a href=\"http:\/\/cursivearmy.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Cursive<\/a><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cursive has one of the most diverse lists of musicians who have inspired them, but somehow they merge them all \u2014\u00a0from Iron Maiden to The Smiths \u2014\u00a0to create their own sound. They are dark, but soft and melodic, but gritty. Over time, they\u2019ve become an Omaha classic.
