This iconic museum was donated to the city of Omaha by a public figure, Sarah Joslyn, in memory of her late husband, George, in 1931. Of course, the museum has come a long way since its humble beginnings, but the public can still enjoy free admission on any day of the\u00a0week. The\u00a0eclectic collection of works at the Joslyn Art Museum\u00a0span from ancient Greek pottery to pivotal 21st-century paintings, and includes more than 11,000 pieces! It\u2019s easy to get lost amongst the exhibits\u2014but in our opinion, that\u2019s the best part.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<h2><span lang=\"en-US\">12:30\u00a0p.m. \u2014\u00a0Lunch at\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.monsterclubomaha.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\" data-linkindex=\"5\"><span lang=\"en-US\">The Monster Club<\/span><\/a><\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span lang=\"en-US\">If you&#8217;re somehow able to pull yourself away from all the wonders at Joslyn Art Museum by lunchtime, head back over to\u00a0the Old Market\u00a0for lunch at The Monster Club! While this spooky spot isn&#8217;t filled with &#8220;traditional&#8221; art, you will find yourself face-to-face with classic horror movie posters, 3D figurines, masks, skull-filled chandeliers and much more. It is a place for artists from all over the world to showcase their talent\u00a0through interesting exhibitions, experimental music programs and events.\u00a0If you can, we highly recommend booking a tour, which usually last about an hour and cost $10 per adult and $5 per student. Regular admission to this unique museum is completely free, but they are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<h2><span lang=\"en-US\">3:45\u00a0p.m. \u2014 Stop by\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitomaha.com\/listings\/fertile-ground-mural\/64445\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\" data-linkindex=\"8\"><span lang=\"en-US\">Fertile Ground<\/span><\/a><\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span lang=\"en-US\">After lunch, it&#8217;s time to head north\u00a0for some more art-filled adventure-seeking at\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hotshopsartcenter.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\" data-linkindex=\"9\"><span lang=\"en-US\">Hot Shops Art Center<\/span><\/a><span lang=\"en-US\">! But on the way, don&#8217;t miss the largest mural in Omaha\u2014and one of the largest murals in the country\u2014Fertile Ground.\u00a0Created by internationally acclaimed artist Meg\u00a0Saligman, this\u00a032,500-square-foot masterpiece tells the story of Omaha,\u00a0from historical references to present-day neighbors.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span lang=\"en-US\">If you want to add some more street art tours to this itinerary, don&#8217;t miss some of Omaha&#8217;s most popular\u00a0neighborhoods,\u00a0like Benson (where you&#8217;ll find several incredible murals and other art destinations) or\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.npdodge.com\/northcentralnortheast-real-estate\/?utm_source=Blog&amp;utm_medium=Blog+Post&amp;utm_campaign=Internal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\" data-linkindex=\"10\"><span lang=\"en-US\">North Omaha<\/span><\/a><span lang=\"en-US\">\u00a0(where\u00a0you&#8217;ll find murals depicting Omaha&#8217;s African American history and culture in the area).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<h2><span lang=\"en-US\">4:00\u00a0p.m. \u2014\u00a0Shop for art at the\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hotshopsartcenter.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\" data-linkindex=\"11\"><span lang=\"en-US\">Hot Shops Art Center<\/span><\/a><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">Hot Shops Art Center is located just north of Old Market and contains 50 art studios, four art galleries, four anchor \u201cHot Shops\u201d\u2014including\u00a0a glass studio, a metal foundry, a ceramics studio and an iron forge\u2014along with\u00a0many other exhibition spaces. This center provides space for artists to work on their craft, therefore supporting the local art community. Peruse the art galleries, workspaces and even watch a demonstration or two for free!\u00a0For those wanting to take something home with you, there\u2019s always the option to purchase some of this amazing local art.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<h2><span lang=\"en-US\">6:40 p.m. \u2014 Dinner &amp; a Movie at the\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/filmstreams.org\/dundee-theater\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\" data-linkindex=\"12\"><span lang=\"en-US\">Dundee Theater<\/span><\/a><\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span lang=\"en-US\">For movie buffs, there&#8217;s no better place to watch an independent film than Film Streams here in Omaha. While one of the Film Streams theaters, the Ruth Sokolof Theater, is located nearby the\u00a0Hot Shops Art Center, we highly recommend heading across town to\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.npdodge.com\/dundee-memorial-real-estate\/?utm_source=Blog&amp;utm_medium=Blog+Post&amp;utm_campaign=Internal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\" data-linkindex=\"13\"><span lang=\"en-US\">Dundee<\/span><\/a><span lang=\"en-US\">\u00a0to catch dinner and a movie at the Dundee Theater.\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lolasomaha.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\" data-linkindex=\"14\"><span lang=\"en-US\">Lola&#8217;s Caf\u00e9<\/span><\/a><span lang=\"en-US\">, located inside the Dundee Theater, is a neighborhood caf\u00e9 serving fresh, simple food and wine.\u00a0Evening showings typically begin around 6:45 and if you order ahead\u00a0online, you\u00a0pick up your food and take it into the theater with you!
