The upcoming winter games<\/a> will be held in Bejing in February of 2022! While we love watching all the events\u2014from bobsleigh to figure skating and ski jumping\u2014we are particularly interested in curling, mostly because Omaha plays a big part in the sport. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

That\u2019s right, Omaha, Nebraska will once again be home to the 2022 curling trials, the contest held to select the participants for the U.S. Curling Team. Omaha hosted this event before, and we hope to continue being the home of this prestigious competition for many years to come!  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We\u2019ve broken down all the information you\u2019ll need to know going into the trials along with a few places you can learn to curl for yourself. And, if you want to explore Omaha\u2019s winter activities even further, we have a few options for that as well. Have fun! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/div>\n\n\n\n

2022 Curling Trials Information<\/strong> <\/h2>\n\n\n\n
\"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Trials will be held November 12-21, 2021, at Baxter Arena<\/a> here in Omaha, Nebraska. During those 10 days, curling teams from across the country will compete to represent the United States in Bejing. The event will be hosted by the Omaha Sports Commission<\/a> in partnership with the Aksarben Curling Club<\/a>.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As of now, Baxter Arena is back at 100% capacity with no social distancing measures in place. However, guests are required to wear face coverings throughout the building. There will also be multiple hand-sanitizing stations at all entrances, concession stands and throughout various locations in the arena.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Aksarben Curling Club<\/strong><\/a><\/strong> <\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The\u00a0Askarben\u00a0Curling Club was\u00a0established\u00a0in 1958 and\u00a0remains\u00a0the largest curling club in Nebraska, as well as one of the largest in the country.\u00a0Whether\u00a0you\u2019re\u00a0a curling professional or are just getting used to the thought of the ice,\u00a0you\u2019ll\u00a0be able to find a league or lesson that fits your skill level at the\u00a0Aksarben\u00a0Club. Curling Sessions at Baxter Arena<\/strong><\/a><\/strong> <\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Throughout the entire Curling Trials, Baxter Arena (in partnership with The Aksarben Curling Club) will be hosting 30 Minute \u201cLearn to Curl\u201d sessions, where you can learn how to properly throw a stone and will get the chance to play a short game. Then, stick around and watch the professionals show you how it\u2019s done during the trials! Winter Activities in the Omaha Area<\/strong> <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

If you\u2019ve been inspired to take on a new winter sport this season, Omaha has you covered! From cross-country skiing to ice skating, Omaha is a wonderland of things to do during the colder months. Here are a few ways to get in on the wintery action this coming season.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Go Cross-country Skiing at Zorinsky Lake<\/strong> <\/h3>\n\n\n\n
\"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

It just wouldn\u2019t be winter in Omaha without a cross-country skiing trip around one of our favorite parks! Zorinsky Lake is one of the most popular recreation opportunities in the area year-round. And in the winter months, a whole new world of sports becomes available. With 770 acres of public access land, you\u2019ll have plenty of room to roam on cross-country skis. Visit Recreation.gov<\/a> to check on conditions before visiting. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Go Sledding Down a Local Hill<\/strong> <\/h3>\n\n\n\n

We love snow and all the winter activities that come with it\u2014snowshoeing, snowball fights, skiing, oh my! But while we love throwing a snowball as much as anyone, our favorite activity by far is sledding. Click here<\/a> for a list of our favorite Omaha sledding hills (which even has an interactive map!) and hit the hills once the snow starts falling. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Go Snowshoeing at <\/strong>Fontenelle Forest<\/strong><\/a><\/strong> <\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Next to sledding and cross-country skiing, snowshoeing is one of our favorite local outdoor winter activities. A favorite local snowshoeing spot is Fontenelle Forest in Bellevue, a gorgeous park that features 24 miles for you to traverse. If you don\u2019t own your own snowshoes, you can rent some for just $5 depending on availability. We recommend calling ahead to reserve your pair and to make sure the conditions are good for snowshoeing the day you\u2019d like to go.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Go Skiing at <\/strong>Mt. Crescent<\/strong><\/a> <\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Mt. Crescent is open year-round, but the winter months are the most active and popular times to visit. One of the only downhill resorts in the area, the whole family can take ski and snowboard lessons then start shredding the hills! In addition to skiing, you can also enjoy sledding down their many hills or grabbing a mug of hot chocolate from the Swiss-style lodge.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Go Ice Skating<\/strong>\u00a0<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Before winter ends, strap on some skates hit the ice at one of Omaha\u2019s many local ice rinks! The Captiol District Ice Rink<\/a>, Grover Ice Rink<\/a>, Motto McLean Ice Arena<\/a> and the UNMC Ice Rink<\/a> are all great choices with a variety of class options for every skill level.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n
