Nestled on a 250 acre plot a mile or so south of the Dodge expressway and west of the Elkhorn River is the community known as Riverside Lakes.  Established in the late 1900’s primarily as a site for summer getaways, it has now become the permanent home for most residents. It is especially popular with families who enjoy boating, fishing and a casual outdoor life-style.

Both lakes in the complex are stocked with fish and provide water activities.  The larger lake  (80 acres) has 87 home sites, many with boat docks, and  can be used for power boating, jet skis, and water skiing.  The smaller lake (approximately 20 acres) has 60 home sites and a no wake limit so it is popular for kayaking, canoeing, and paddle-boating.

The Riverside Lakes Recreation Association plans social activities for all ages throughout the year—a 4th of July boat parade on each lake with a gigantic fireworks display in the evening, a fall hot dog roast, and a winter chili feed.  The highlight of the year is Summer Fun Days—a weeklong celebration with fishing tournaments, a horseshoe tournament, Kid’s Night, family softball night, a duck race and a triathlon.  There’s also a casual, adults only dinner party on the first night and a family dinner to bring the festivities to a close on the final night.

The area is governed by an SID (Sanitary Improvement District) Board which consists of five property owners who are elected by other property owners. The Board is responsible for budgeting and supervising the maintenance of streets, utilities, public improvements, and common areas in the District.

The Douglas County West School District serves the community with consolidated facilities in Waterloo and Valley.  Several parochial schools are found in near-by Elkhorn as are churches of many denominations.  With homes of many styles in the $200,000-$400,000 price range and easy access to employment on the Dodge Expressway,  Riverside Lakes has great appeal for many home-buyers.
