In past generations, many non golfers, with a hint of sarcasm, referred to the game as “cow pasture pool”.  In the case of the Deer Creek neighborhood there is some truth to that phrase since the site of the golf course and housing development was once a pasture where cows peacefully grazed.   Located south and west of 120th and State Streets, today the community is the site of beautifully landscaped  homes  which are situated around a 350 acre golf facility, designed by Arnold Palmer. The Players Club, as it is known, consists of two courses, one 18 holes and one 9 holes.  Designed to utilize the rolling hills of the area’s natural terrain, both contain water features, wetlands, bent grass fairways, and challenging bunkers.   The course is thought by many to be one of the best in Nebraska.  

Other amenities found at the private club include a junior-sized Olympic pool, a zero depth,  children’s pool, a fitness center, adult and youth programming, and both casual and fine dining areas.  The spacious clubhouse has also become a popular site for business meetings and wedding receptions as well as a place for social activities for Deer Creek residents.

While most homes in the community are ranches or two stories, they are individually designed to eliminate a “cookie cutter” effect.    Plans for new construction and for any exterior changes to in-place homes must be approved by the development’s architectural committee before work can begin.  Lots without builder attachment are still available so new home owners may work with their own design and construction professionals throughout the building process.  Values for homes in the community usually vary from $350,000 to $400,000, depending upon style, size, amenities, and location.  And while many homeowners are golfers, others simply enjoy the trails and natural vistas, the parks with playgrounds, and the sense of community found at Deer Creek.

Located within the Omaha Public School system, it is currently served by Northwest High School, Morton Middle School, and Masters Elementary School.  Much of this will change in the near future as the District has set aside nearby sites for new elementary and middle schools.  Other educational opportunities can be found in several parochial schools located a short drive away.

The Maple Street corridor is a short drive south on 120th Street and provides restaurants, a multiplex movie theater, soccer and baseball fields, and shopping of all types.  There is also access to I-680 off of both Maple and Fort Streets, providing routes to employment sites across the city.
