Area Information

Morton Meadows

Morton Meadows is a unique area in midtown Omaha.  It encompasses mini-neighborhoods that showcase well maintained cottages, bungalows, colonial and Tudors with prices ranging from $65,000 to the mid $200,000’s.  Founded in the mid 1920’s, it is now in the application process for inclusion in the National Registry of Historic Places due to its early 20 th century architecture. The community has a very active Neighborhood Association which concentrates on grant writing, beautification, outreach, events, and a citizens’ patrol.  The group has also been working with the Midtown Alliance to take advantage of the entire midtown revival program. The area contains a recently remodeled OPS elementary school, a Catholic elementary school, and a Catholic  girls’ high school.  A large Catholic church, a historical Lutheran church and churches of other denominations are in or near the community. Restaurants and retail outlets, including a large grocery store, serve the neighborhood, and it is only a short distance from Elmwood Park, Ak-sar-ben Village and Midtown Crossing.  The northern edge of the community abuts the University of Nebraska Medical Center with its hospital and numerous research and clinical facilities—one of the largest employers in the city. Designed in the 1920’s as a safe, friendly family place to live,  it continues to meet this criteria today.
