If you’ve been around Omaha for a while, you’ll know that there are several wonderful lakes in and around the surrounding areas. And thankfully, there are plenty of ways to take advantage of these bodies of water. For instance, you can kayak at Lake Zorinsky, catch a few fish at Carter Lake or go for a peaceful canoe ride around Enders Lake.
However, we think the best and most long-term way to enjoy the serenity of a nearby lake is by camping out in front of one. And no, we’re not talking about your traditional camping with a flimsy tent and swarms of mosquitoes. We’re talking about enjoying a lake view as you “camp out” from the comfort of your own home!

1.) A Private 2-Acre Lake in Council Bluffs
This woodland retreat in Council Bluffs is lucky enough to host its own private 2-acre lake right in its own backyard. You can fish, swim or canoe through the water, but more importantly, you can catch a glimpse of this beautiful lake from inside the authentic log house! This house is completely secluded from the busyness of society, but has easy access to downtown Omaha and other necessary amenities.
2.) A Private Dock in Waterloo
We love this spectacular Waterloo home that was planned out with extensive detail and intricate design. However, our favorite part about this space is the phenomenal lake views visible from several places within the home — the living room, dining room, kitchen, the finished basement, a few of the bedrooms, and even the master bathroom! And you can take full advantage of this wonderful view on the well-manicured backyard space, second-story deck, outdoor patio seating area or the dock right on the lake.
3.) A Modern Cabin Style with its Own Private Beach
We always love when a home features cabin-like details, and this home in Waterloo takes “cabin on a lake” to the next level! It has authentic cabin features, like wood details and soaring vaulted ceilings. The lake views from inside this home in Valley simply don’t look real. But open up the retractable glass walls, breathe in the fresh lake air, and you’ll know they’re real! We are blown away by this property inside and out. And since spring is just around the corner, we are particularly drawn to the outdoor seating area that hosts an awesome fire pit. What a perfect place to gather as a family and enjoy the wonderful weather during the spring and summer.
5.) A Large Outdoor Balcony Overlooking the Lake
We love the picturesque view from within this home located at the head of a cul-de-sac overlooking this lake in Springfield perfect for waterskiing, fishing and swimming. Imagine stepping outside to enjoy these beautiful sunsets from the outdoor balcony!
